I drew this yesterday because when I came back home it seemed Sasha wouldnt pass the night, she seemed incredibly weak and sick. I didnt sleep last night, kinda horrified by the thought of having to pick and burry her in the morning....
Fortunately when I got up, and went to my flock Sasha was standing there, hanging with her buddies. I'm very happy that she is such a fighter! The good new is that I managed to order some antibiotics and they should arrive next week! I know it's "just a chicken" but I am incredibly attached to them, I have been waiting about 5 years to get hens again and I feel terrible now that I had the bad luck of buying young hens that were already sick. it's never "just" an animal to their beloved owners... Thanks to these who send some money my way to buy what I need! I am incredibly grateful to that!
Sorry if I'm just rambling here....
Beside yeah I've been enjoying drawing my flock as raptors lately! I think Sasha would make a terrific one!

No chicken is "just a chicken"! No animal is like that! They're family members. Family members extend past people and "traditional" pets. My service animal, Flak, is a rooster. Even after two years, people still ask if he's around as if he was just a novelty or something, I really don't get it. He stopped one of my suicide attempts and people think he's just a joke? Just a replaceable chicken?
Sorry, I.. get worked up over these things, I know how much you love your birds. :( I sincerely hope Sasha makes a speedy recovery. I'm rooting for her!

yeah... it really piss me off too and I've seen lots of stupid comments like that MOSTLY on FA which I find...ironical...
I used to have a rooster too, he was the sweetest little angel and died because of an accident while I was away...
but rooster service animal seems incredible! you keep him in house ? can he go to places with you as well ?!? that seems incredible! this makes me so sad people overlook these animals... I mean chickens can live up 10 years it's an investment, they have feelings and if you spend time with them they'll love you... humans have their life and all but to the animal you're pretty much it's life... and I love chickens, they're smart birds and when I come out in the morning they pop their head out their coop to see if I'm bringing food and it's adorable, it makes me happy :/
I hope she can hold on until I receive the meds, things will go way smoother then hopefully <:')

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about your rooster. They get such a bad rap about being aggressive bloodthirsty monsters but like, every rooster I've met has been the biggest baby. My guy is a Serama, so he's a teenie tiny fart that I could technically shove in my purse if I wanted to. He stays in the house with me, sleeps in my bed, steals my food, and loses his shit if I get out of his sight for more than five seconds. Since the ADA only recognizes dogs and miniature horses as service animals at the current time, Flak is legally considered a "therapy animal", however he's trained the same as an autism service dog would be. He knows verbal and non-verbal commands, and has a harness/diaper he wears when he goes out in public with me. Most people don't even notice him, or think he's a stuffed animal. Restaurants love him because he behaves better than kids (and some adults). When he has his harness on.. he knows he's working. Flak has made a MASSIVE difference in my quality of life, I really wish the ADA would recognize more animals as being capable of providing these services.
But yeah, service animal or not, chickens are definitely more than "just chickens". They're so much more intelligent than people give them credit for, they're loving, understanding, trusting, quirky... It's no different than having a dog or cat as a family member. Chickens just have feathers. They're dogs with feathers. Man, chickens are tough little boogers though, they can go through a lot and make a full comeback. I have faith that with a little help from some antibiotics, Sasha will be back to 100% in no time!

I must admit I'm very impressed! I knew they were smart little thing but not that much! this makes me so happy! I'm secretly wishing I get close enough of my hen to bring some in once in a while. It's been only 3 weeks but I have great hope we all become buddies haha!
My rooster was also small! it was a red bantam named Renaldo. I got him because he was the most beautiful bird I ever saw and he'd be happy with the hens too. and he turned out to be a really sweet pie! my grandmother with get him on her knees when she visited and pet him on the rocking chair hahah it sure was something beautiful to see! I never actually met any "blood thirsty" rooster neither... :l
I'd have some questions about roosters tho if you'd not mind me to note you about it ??? I have two chicks and one of them I'm suspecting to be a rooster and I suspect if he doesnt meet some conditions I wont be able to keep him...
yeah I think it's a bit complicated because not everyone would trust a bird I guess ? like everyone seems to think birds are dumbs even if every years there is new proof that they are very intelligent and understanding!

Your hens will be ALL OVER YOU before long, it will become a natural state of being. I have accepted my bird overlords and am quite happy being a mobile perch/foot warmer.
Feel free to note me any questions you have! I'll answer everything to the best of my ability
(sorry for the late reply though, I've been running a stupid fever and when I get sick I get REALLY bad about not checking anything online)
