Coyotes and fire have a long and exciting history together. Hard to imagine, huh?
The trickster tale of Coyote stealing fire is one of my favorites. There are so many versions, but I prefer the ones where he carries the the fire on his back (or tail-tip), thereby explaining why coyotes have darker fur there.
Regardless, I’m pretty sure Xyk’s doing it wrong!
This piece was the result of a cool “grab bag” commission idea that Mary was having earlier, in which she got to decide what to draw as well as the media. It was a lot of fun! …well, it was for me, at least – I’m not so sure about Xyk!
Thanks, Mary!
