I would have to disagree. I would go with a star mace. Swords are ineffective to out right useless against metal armor.

When you go up against someone in metal armor and more so in a plated type of armor you don't want a slashing weapon you want a bashing weapon. A slashing weapon will just slide along the armor and do no damage what so ever. A bashing weapon will brake bones. In a pinch you would want a thin stabbing blade. The reason you see swords in movies used against metal armored foes is because its what the director or producer wants or thinks that is what the people that pay to see the movie wants to see used and nothing else.

The reason metal armored fighters carried a sword was that most people he would be fighting would not be wearing any kind of metal armor but would be wearing a kind of padded armor and a slashing sword can cut through padded armor.
