I'd say you've got a pretty good start right there, honestly. I'm all for fuzzy art, but it never hurts to do human studies, especially since much of anthro art is based off of a human design, even in expression! Practice really does make perfect, though, and everyone develops their own method, so definitely keep pluggin' away. I personally watch a lot of streams, a lot of tutorials and do studies of things I'm weak with.
