I had the honor to walk with my fellow packmates in SEA-PAH (SEAttle Pups And Handlers) in the 2015 Seattle Pride Parade this past Sunday, 6/28!
Over 10 years ago I would gather with friends in the fandom in front of Dick's (if you've been to Seattle, you've been to Dick's) to watch as men, women, and others would march, walk, and dance their way down the street. I never would have thought years later I would be one of them. I owe this all to Nightcat, my supportive wife
christicalico ,
ookaminobaka , and all my friends in SEA-PAH and the furry community. I love you all and thank you for welcoming me back and making me feel like I never hid.
During the parade I was dubbed a mongoose dog for when GIR asked if he could be a mongoose dog in Invader Zim. I basically have GIR's energy and mentality. #^_^# *Wags So Hard* I loved interacting with the crowd and would slide on my kneepads towards them. Their cheering, applause, and taking pictures fed me! It was not me they were cheering for, it was for all of us, it was for them, it was for celebrating, it was for hope, it was for so many things. But being able to paw bump with kids, adults, the elderly, the broken ... it made every step I took for my 38 years of life, every hardship I went through ... worth it.
During one moment of the march there was a crippled man in a motorized wheelchair. His body was thin and slack, and his expression was listless. I walked by, made eye contact, waved excitedly at him ... and he smiled back. Remembering that brings tears to my eyes right now. EVERYTHING is worth it for that moment, and I cannot wait to be a part of things next year!
