a few people had asked for me to take pics/keep an update of the tadpoles that had hatched on the 21st. they grow up so fast :,<
long story short some frogs laid eggs in my chlorinated pool and i doubted that the eggs had survived over night in chlorine but they actually did! and now i have a LOT of them. not sure how many.
I change a third of their water every few days with water from the stream next to my house
i feed them boiled lettuce that i then blend so that they're tiny pieces, freeze them into cubes and then drop 'em in every other day. they go through them fast :O
i keep the plastic bin that they're in now half covered so that they don't get too warm
i'm 99% sure they're gray tree frogs
YEAH :D

They only really have little sucker mouths, so cannibalism is unlikely unless one is already dead. With that many tadpoles, it is likely that some will die off.
Feeding them lettuce sounds a lot cheaper than feeding them goldfish flakes or catfish tablets as I have done. They love that stuff, but it's expensive and it's just dried algae. Jeez!

ohh okay, i see! I always had heard that they will sometimes eat other tadpoles, that makes me feel a little better! They seem to LOVE the lettuce, right when i put it in i see a few swim over to it :P i may also get some goldfish flakes in case i run out of lettuce (they go through it way quicker than i expected!) but right now everything i've been doing for them has just kinda been what i could find around my house and yard.
If you think they eat a lot now, wait until all 50,000 of them are an inch long.
And what goes in must come out....I had something like 30 Pacific tree frog tadpoles in a 5gal tank and was changing the water every single day just to keep it livable with an aerator going 24/7.

so far i havent seen any birds around them, the bin is located on my porch which is up a level and pretty well covered, birds dont seem to go on it ever :O but i keep it half covered so i'm HOPING thats enough >< i've never raised tadpole sbefore so i dont really have good equipment to do so. but i'm trying my hardest :D right now i think they're too small for birds or any other creatures to really care about them.. YET!
i'm PRETTYYY sure they're gray tree frogs, just cause those guys have been in my pool a lot and they're always horny >:( lol they also are able to climb out of the pool no problem and when i discovered the eggs no frogs were present so.. i think they were the culprits :O
