Okay I'm done waiting for the current season to end before I post this. :P
This is the 2nd of two draftees I have developed for the 2015 FBA Draft. This guy is going to be my "main", so to speak, because his story involves traveling from Europe to the Americas to play professional basketball. Also he's a chicken which is hilarious. Chickens are hilarious. Bwaaaak.
Georges Poulletier
Birthplace: Nantes, France – 2/20/1993
Height: 6’9’’
Weight: 220
Shoots: Right
Species: Chicken (Poule D'Estaires breed)
College: Université d’Aviaires Ouest
Position: F
Background:
Chickens have not historically received recognition for their actual value and worth in Europe. Despite being a national symbol of some countries (see Wallonia, a region in Belgium), there is no respect for the species, and the predatorial community makes a laughingstock of their assumed status. That’s what gives Georges hope to endure on an international scale.
Georges witnessed teens and tweens playing the sport in various places around Europe. Georges wanted to play on a school basketball team – not just on his free time. Georges’ school did not have basketball until he urged and assembled one his sophomore year with help from his Phys. Ed coach and school officials. Whenever he got a chance to travel to another country, he’d be sure to find a local gym or park to participate in pick-up games. He’d watch and try different play styles he picked up from his international games – getting better at the game in the process. He posted well-enough grades and high school stats to be considered to start on the team at the Universite d’Aviaires Ouest in Bordeaux, but on one condition – he switch from the Guard position (his favorite) to the Small Forward position. The opportunity outweighed the cost, and so he agreed.
Starting at Small Forward, Georges played averagely, scoring only 7 points per game and 3 rebounds – these numbers improved when he moved to the Power Forward position (9 and 5). By his third year, the numbers remained largely the same, but with increasingly improving rebound numbers and fewer personal fouls (the “personal fouls” irony is lost in French, by the way).
With no true life goal set by his junior year, other than “I want to travel and see the world”, Georges began to settle into determining a career for himself post-college when he garnered attention from EFBL scouts. It was his Senior year when his rebound numbers topped the 10 mark per game. However, this extra attention from scouts provided some foresight on his part – seeing the opportunity to take it one step further, and because he so enjoyed the experience of traveling around Europe to see the world, he decided he would apply for the FBA draft.
Georges is still seeking for an agent to represent his ocean-crossing venture into American basketball, but believes he can provide the type of focused and specialized quality that the league is desperately looking for in 2015. Oh – and he cooks up a mean beef tourtiere.
Georges' Statement
Verifie mes statistiques. Je suis d'un fur que tu as veux.>>
(( I hope to enter the league because it is an extraordinary opportunity. You do not think I've found my destiny, but basketball ... it is the first thing on my mind every day. Give me a chance. Look beyond the way I look, and watch my games. Count up my stats. I am a fur that you want. ))
Play Style
Georges’ size and shape overcompensates in defensive skills on the court, but prevents him from improving his overall mobility (like a cheetah or fox). Georges was forced to alter his play style while in college, playing for an all-avian team that could get away with using the one-flap rule; being a flightless bird, Georges’ wing feathers do not help much, and only uses the rule on rare occasions. Therefore, Georges focused more on preventative defense as a forward, and so his skills fit best with the Power Forward position. Georges has an average field goal percentage, but a below-average 3-point percentage, and he rarely goes in for the dunk. His main focus since his college days has been positioning himself in the best place possible for getting rebounds, using his travels to import creativity into his game style, and using focused concentration as a special tool for his team.
Personality
Georges is most comfortable speaking in his own language and would rather communicate in French, as he is still learning English. When conversing in French, Georges is very outspoken and sociable. If you know anything about French furs, they love their culture and their language. It’s none too different for Georges, and will use the opportunity in America to introduce his culture to his fellow teammates – it’s without a doubt part of his natural personality.
Georges’ family moved from the southern region of Belgium to western France during World War II and has lived there ever since. Given the historical background, Georges grew up with an ideal view on life, where he was more than just a cog in a machine. While some parents are commandeering about family businesses, Georges’ was not – his father was smart enough to know that there wasn’t a bright future ahead in that regard - and so Georges’ mother urged him to explore. Georges’ ambitious attitude led him to try whatever opportunities he could find. Georges won friends over at the neighborhood basketball court due to his height and boastfulness, and it was there that he found his niche.
He took up rock climbing (escalade) while traveling, and loves going on expeditions with friends or just a friendly trip to the climbing gymnasiums. Georges keeps a travelogue of his adventures and trips, and it has a small following.
Georges majored in Literature, and is an avid writer. He maintains a blog site about his travels and his voyage into the FBA draft and (hopefully) beyond!
The rooster is focused and devoted to the game. He aims to have fun while playing, but hates dealing with those who put family and fortune above the game. Basketball is not a place and time for relationships - this is unacceptable in his eyes, and has been seen as a cold personality for it. For example, if a player gets injured, his focus turns to preparing the next teammate in line rather than comforting the injured player.
