Goodness me, Neotheta!
Confuzzled was my first experience at a convention so it was a fantastic experience getting to meet up with so many amazing artists like yourself. Me and Maniko decided to get one collab commission to celebrate meeting up for the first time at the con, and we picked you – your style was kinda absolutely perfect for what we both love in art. Even though I’ve commissioned people online many times before, commissioning people face to face was a surreal but amazing experience, and the main difference I felt was that I had less idea what to expect.
What little expectations I did have though were completely blown out of the water though – you did an absolutely amazing job exceeding anything I could have expected. Both Erika and Shorty look astounding, and the background is beautiful – you really did a fantastic job with this!
You got Erika down absolutely perfectly. Apologies for my lack of ref organisation – I’ll have to get some refsheets done for next year. Or at least put my ref folders somewhere more accessible and easier to hand out at a convention! But that said you rendition of Erika is absolutely spot on. Her expression is absolutely bursting with attitude – and I love that! It just looks so good – her ears really help with that too. You didn’t skimp on her ears size, which is another lovely thing to see. I’m a huge fan of silly huge ears, it just looks adorable.
Her hair looks beautiful. How you got those wonderfully rich vibrant tones in the hair is beyond me. It just looks so vivid. You mentioned in your stream that you studied colour theory and it all comes naturally to you now. It shows. It really really shows! Even her neckfluff which is a whiteish colour has such diverse colours in it, and it looks thick and fluffy, and just so good c.c; Also while I’m on the topic of fluffy things. The fur looks great! How do you handle your fur? Is that brush strokes, smudging or a mixture of the two?
The constellation dress of Erika’s I fast becoming my favourite outfit of hers. (Which is amusing as the only time I’ve actually drawn it outside of a ref, it was just in a heap on the floor in her messy bedroom).
Pie did an outstanding job with it and now you’ve matched that with an equally outstanding job. I think the amusing thing, is that given her size and location, it actually counts as camouflage!
The anklet / bracelet things (which I really need a collective term for) look really really nice. What made you decide to give them the glowy aura like that? As that just look really pretty - I really like that effect, it looks really beuautiful, and fits the sciency nature of the Araltians really well. It’s the main thing I love about commissioning other artists – people interpret my characters in lots of different ways, and so many folks actually improve my own characters- and I consider this one such picture.
Onto Shorty, and I’ll keep this uh… short? As she’s Maniko’s character. But she looks absolutely lovely too. The witches hat and outfit is adorable, and I love the great big ears and orangey yellow highlights in her hair. The way she’s flying through space on the broom looks lovely and it gives the whole picture a really nice “magic and science” vibe to it. And if Shorty is Erika’s normal height here, she’ll be dusting all kinds of stardust out of space with the broom of hers!

I use all blur, fur brush and then detailing brush to draw fur. Someday I'll also release the fur brush pack I've created for everyone, just need to refine it a little more.
