When you're a Mawile and is stuck in mega form, it does work in your favor if you become a carpenter, though sometimes it's nice to have some help. Just need to make sure the one(s) helping you have a clear idea of what to do, and having them being 8 feet tall helps a lot too!

You have to give him credit though for staying sane for so long.... and also survive an ambush of nearly 100 fire mages (fun fact, he's scared to death of fire) but only barely by having an ally show up and help him fend them off to retreat.
...also, don't be too harsh on him, he lost his job and home to a massive fire in town that left him homeless for months before he revealed the news to his friends... and his maws had during that time aquired a tumor... which actually took his life. Nearly 1800 years later his soul was discovered haunting the first building he ever made, not even knowing he was dead. He was brought back into life and his current love interest Anna had to teach him the evolution of technology and history at a rather slow pace so he wouldn't get a culture shock over the course of a year or two. He's in canon almost caught up with it all.

Amelia probably wouldn't give him that much credit though. She's scared of warped Pokemon and mega pokemon by extension. She's gotten to the point where she'll allow herself to mega evolve, but she only does so when the situation demands it (or if she's super horny and stops caring for a moment haha)

Plus until he originally turned 21, he moved a lot. Due to him being stuck in mega since he was so young, he was feared by his class mates and didn't make any friends. It wasn't until he stumbled upon Red's village that he finally got a real friend that did NOT try to only study him. A few dozen doctors had tried to use him for that unfortunatly.
