Oh, they can get far away from the launcher crew not to get flambed.
But you better are upwind, on a hillcrest, and fire downrange, and the target's really worth the use of a nuke.
And hopefully you didn#t plan on founding a family and, likewise, don't mind some cancer.
Sharkboys would be better launcher crews actually.

oh yeah, there were phases I think ;p
when you were a wee little kid, you got the sparklers. Then maybe a few years later you got the snap popper things you throw down on the ground and make explode. Then you moved up to firecrackers and bottle rockets. if you were lucky, you got to advance to m80s and natural works soon after. Of course, once you hit your 20s its all boring and stupid. hehe ;p
