Pencil against paper... over and over (with a more or less clear mental image of how their fur should flow).

I know there are a lot of third-party filters, brushes out there that create various textures. I'm sure there are some for fur but I have no idea where to look for them.

Lately I've been getting more adventurous with Photoshop, scanning in my drawings & then working on them digitally (just like they do in animation!) Sometimes it's just to do invisible patchwork, other time to add colors & textures:

The Mr. Airwick sequence is one of my oldest, dates way back to when I first started saving my TF art. It's totally hand-drawn - but the soft-focus 'WHIFF' was lifted off the original drawing, processed in P-shop & then layered back on top of the picture. Where I've really gone to town with P-shop is in my photomorphs:
