BEEP BEEP BEEP........... BEEP BEEP BEEP.............. BEEP BE- *click*
An outstretched arm and groan came from under a series of blankets, before a head with ruffled fur pokes out, making a loud yawn before taking his paw off of the alarm clock and getting up, cracking his back and sitting upright in his bed. He rubs his eyes groggily before looking at the clock, which read 12:35. "Yup, I guess that happens when you press the snooze button twenty times...." the fox groans, half tempted to just throw the covers back on him and go back to bed for another round of snoozes. He decides against that, and proceeds to get up to shake the rest of his tiredness away.
His room was more or less organized, although his 'room' was more like an apartment building instead, with a kitchen off to the side and a lonely table that was covered in books and paper most of the time. He goes up to the table and smiles a little, picking up a few pieces of paper, which had mostly doodles and other weird drawings from him and his friends. That helped him get relaxed and comfortable in his new home, which he barely stayed in for a month.
A soft knock takes Jace's mind back into reality as he looks towards to door, setting the drawings down and padding to the door. He leans into it, looking into the peep hole to see who was there. Surprisingly, there was no one there, and Jace decides to open the door to investigate. 'Probably another prank...' he thinks, looking around the halls, which were deserted, no sound of footsteps coming from anywhere. Jace was about to close the door when he notices a letter in front of the door addressed to him. The fox looks around the halls to see who exactly delivered it, but shrugs it off and smiles, taking the letter inside and flops into a chair, wondering who it could be from, "It may be from Ameila, or Bailey, I haven't seen them in a long while!" he almost yips out excitedly, and opens the letter. Immediately he saw the block writing and slumped over, certainly not from one of his friends:
Dear Jace,
We are glad to invite you to join out game show 'Pump or Bust'! Please take this letter down to our studio between the apartment and office tomorrow at 7 so you can get ready, we will be waiting for you!
-sincerely Larry
He looks a little puzzled at the letter for a moment, half expecting it to be a joke or prank. Why would they pick him, especially when he hasn't entered any contest or anything, he hasn't even heard of it! He thinks for a little, "Well, they gave an address and time, so what's the harm in trying it? I mean, best case scenario, I get to be on a game show, worst, I sit in an abandoned warehouse or something..." Jace discusses with himself, before deciding to take the chance and looking at a calendar, circling tomorrow and sticking the letter on there to not forget as he goes back to his drawings and books...
---
The next day, Jace is walking down the street heading towards the game studio where the game show was supposedly being held. He kept his invitation in a pocket of his shorts as he nears the address, oddly enough finding a large building with 'Pump or Bust' in large letters above it in a billboard. He looks around the entrance, unsure of where to go before the door opening makes Jace jump back and almost fall back to the ground. "Ahh!" he cries out as a badger walks out of the door, sporting a Gatsby on his head and offering a paw to the fox.
"Heh, sorry about that Jace, I wasn't expecting you to be early. My name's Michael, nice to meet ya!" he says, not giving the fox a chance to talk back.
"It's fine, don't wor.....wait, how do you know my name?" Jace asks curiously, not remembering meeting the badger anywhere else, so how would he know his name and how he looks? He takes his paw as Larry leads him inside.
"Lucky guess, there are six of you I sent the invitations to, and four of them are already here" the badger points out, which Jace simply shrugs in response. Works for him.
"anyways, of you would just follow me and show me your letter, then I'll take you to the main show room. Chances are you haven't heard of the show yet. We just started a few weeks ago, so we only had a few episodes out so far." he points out as the fox follows him, shutting the door behind him.
"As the name suggests, the goal of the game is to pump up a balloon as big as you can make it without popping in three minutes, and then a winner is chosen and given 'prizes'" he says vaguely.
"Three minutes? Aren't game shows supposed to be around -thirty- minutes?" Jace asks curiously, getting a little suspicious at the badger's game.
"Of course, that's just the first round, the winner and 'losers' will participate in other rounds based on who won and such, which fills up the remainder of our time block." the badger says to the fox, who shrugs, "Alright then I guess that works..."
“Relax, remember, have fun!" the badger says optimistically to the fox as they soon reach a large door. "Are you ready or do you need to take a few breaths?" Larry asks, knowing that the fox hasn't been on a game show at all yet.
"Ready as I'll ever be..." the fox replies, taking a deep breath before yipping in surprise as the badger smacks his back,
"That's the spirit Jace! Now go get them tiger!" the badger chuckles, before opened the door and pushing him in, shutting the door behind him.
The fox looks around. The game show area seemed simple enough. Six platforms stood in a semi-circle with a pedestal behind each one. In the middle of the pedestals, a hole with a nozzle protruding from it. 'I guess that's where the balloons go...' Jace thinks to himself as he explores the room. He curiously steps ontop of one of the platforms, making it light up as a plunger extends from the base, going up to his chest. He grabs the handle curiously and pushes down on it, hearing a soft 'pfsssssssht' behind him. He steps off the platform and the lights turn off, and the plunger retracts back into the platform, giving him a basic idea of what to do.
He hears the door open on the other side as the badger returns, with three other people with him. One was a white and gray mouse girl, another was an orange dragon with a soft amber underbelly, and a black bat with white chest fluff stood next to the dragon. "Allow me to introduce you to your fellow contestants Jace, here's Ameila, Bailey, and Michael." he motions to the three, "now then. Since we all had our introductions and everyone knows the rules, let's go ahead and get ready to start. If you would, go to your platforms and we'll put your balloon on the pedestals behind you all. Just give it a few pumps to give it shape, and we'll begin, alright?" Larry asks, looking around. Everyone nods, as the badger smiles and waves a paw to dismiss them.
Four cats in matching uniforms walk into the game room, each holding a bundle of rubber in their paws as the group goes on the platforms, almost jumping in surprise as the plungers shot out, except for Jace who already found out about the platform. One feline goes up to his pedestal, carefully anchoring the rubber mass to the nozzle as he goes up to the fox, "Alright, go ahead and give a few test pumps to see if everything is working." the cat requests as Jace obliges, taking the pump in his paws and pushes it down, hearing the same 'psssssssssht' from earlier, although more muffled as it had something on it. He sees the bundle stir a little, giving a few more pumps and seeing a faint version of a galvantula. He stops pumping as the balloon pokemon reaches full size, looking like a normal (although rounded) galvantula.
Jace looks around, seeing that the others have done the same. Ameila had a plusle, sitting on top of the pedestal behind her as the mouse curiously and cautiously looks at it. Bailey had a ninetails next to him as he stood confidently next it, "Nice bug." he comments, crossing his arms over his golden chest. Michael meanwhile had a scoliopede in front of him as the bat looks around to the other balloons and whistles innocently.
"Alright, are we ready to begin?" the badger asks, taking his spot in the middle of the semicircle in front of the contestants, sitting behind a table that had a few monitors to gauge the balloons on the pedestals. The contestants nods, getting their paws and wings on the plunger as the badger smiles, "Then let the game.......begin!" and with an imaginary gun shot, the four began to pump feverishly.
Jace watches as a small counter in front of him shows the amount of pumps he and the other contestants have made, slowly going up as he sees his galvantula's abdomen start to swell out to hold the incoming air like the other balloons, aside from their 'tummies', or body in scoliopede's case, blew out, pushing their heads back and forcing them to lean away. Soft creeaaaaks could be heard from the balloons as they stretch bigger and rounder. Ameila was pumping cautiously, her counter going up slowly as her Plusle balloon looked smaller compared to some of the others, stopping herself when she hears a loud creak come from it, afraid of popping it while Bailey three caution and the wind into his ninetails, which was lying on top of its tummy. It's legs spread out while the balloon tails bobbed behind it. The scoliopede was blowing up about as quickly as the fox was pumping his bug, a shine starting to be more noticeable to him as the bat looks around, seeing the others counters getting bigger then his, aside from the mouse. He calls out to the dragon, smirking a little, "Hey, don't Cha think that balloon is getting a little full, why don't you take a break before the ballon does!" he tries to convince the dragon, who shook his head, but stopped pumping for a little
"Why should I? My balloon is much bigger then the others, so I'm sure to win!" he comments back.
The bat pumps all the while the dragon wasn't, the scoliopede behind him looking more like a round balloon with indents where his segments were. "Exactly, why should you waste your time and energy doing something you already won" he points out, smirking a little as the dragon was still not working the pump, letting the others catch up.
"Well, maybe you're right..." he was about to cross his arms when he notices that the bat's balloon was almost matching his, "...hey!" he almost shouts to the bat, throwing his hands down quickly on the pump and began to vigorously blow up the ninetails behind him, which the bat just chuckles back to him.
Thirty seconds remained on the clock as Bailey was still in the lead, although barely, thanks to Michael, followed by Jace and finally and the least was Ameila, who's plusle who was barely blown up, with its tummy only poking out four or five inches compared to the others' eight inches and larger, not including how big they were before they started. Time ticks down as the counters all rose up, the fox and mouse were pretty much knocked out, the dragon and bat not looking they would lose easily as they pumped without fear into the balloons behind them, much to their protesting creaks and squeaks as they grew more faint and shiny.
The buzzer sounds the end of time as the plumbers all receded, making Ameila jump back and fall backwards from her platform. The other three contestants turned their head to the source of the sound, the dragon crossing his arms boastfully. The badger claps his paws together, "Bravo! What a show! It's not if you win or lose, as long as you have fun...." he gets up and walks over to Ameila and helping her up, smiling to her, ".....right?" he asks to the mouse.
"Y-yeah.....thanks" she smiles before squeaking in surprise as she felt a rather firm smack on her back, almost making her fall forward.
"That's the spirit! Now, we only completed the first phase of the game, and...." he looks up to the counters, with Bailey in first with his balloon almost a whole foot and a half of extra stretch on his balloon ninetails, followed by Michael's scoliopede, which looked more like a segmented balloon rather then it's pokemon counterpart with about twelve inches give or take extra in its girth. Jace followed suit with a modest galvantula which looked generously full in every part of its body, but hard to tell how much air was inside it, forcing the badger to guesstimate a foot of more size. Ameila was last and the least, wit her plusle only having a pudgy eight inch tummy, looking pretty small compared to the others'. "......it looks like our dragon friend has won the first round! So let's go ahead and begin our second phase..." He smiles and steps back...
There was silence as the four looked at her curiously, "Hey, what gives, aren't you going to tell us what we need to d-" the dragon was about to ask the badger before a yelp stopped him as everyone turned to Ameila, who was curled up on the floor. She wriggles in protest as she felt a tingle go over her body. The three watches as her fur turned from a solid gray to a more shiny hue, and looking a little less gray and a little more amber. A soft 'pfwwsssssssssssssssh' could be heard as the mouse was shrinking in size, but also her insides turning into air. Her head grew more rounded, along her body and paws, becoming rounded and more akin to rubber, her fur losing its properties as it was replaced with a golden rubbery skin instead. Her tummy hisses out a little as it stretches out a little, making the mouse girl panic, only for it to stop a little in front of her. Her ears stretch out a little, turning red on the ends, same with her paws as they all shrink down and round out, squeaking softly. Soon enough, her tail was shrinking behind her, instead turning into a red plus shape behind her. By the time she opened her eyes, she was not looking at herself, instead, she looked a lot like the Plusle balloon she was blowing up earlier!
"What the heck is this?" the bat goes up to the badger, pointing over to Ameila, who was still curled up, trying to figure out what just happened to her.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot to mention that in the game. If you lose, then you become your balloon for the next round, air and all" he smiles, "I should congratulate all of you though, as none of your balloons popped!" the last sentence made the plusle squeak out in fear and curl up tighter with a more rubbery squeak coming from her.
Jace was about to say something, but felt his throat catch on something, followed by a soft 'ssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh' as he puts his paws to his tummy. Oddly enough, his tummy was blowing up on the bottom side, but his chest remaining normal sized, at least until he fell forward. He squirms as he felt an odd tingle over his sides, before a pair of nubs on ever side of him between his arms and legs formed. His arms and legs grew thinner and shorter, paws and feet spindling down into rubbery rounded 'legs' at his sides. His torso was rounding out and shrinking, along with the rest of him as his head rounds out, ears disappearing and eyes turning emerald green. His fur slowly changed from its distinct orange colour into a smooth rubbery golden one, looking similar to the galvantula he was blowing up too
Bailey looked at the two, and shook his head, putting his paws out in front of him before crossing them, "Oh no no no no, you can't be serious. I was close to winning, don't I get a constellation prize?" he asks Larry.
"Of course" the badger smiles and puts an arm around his shoulder while a soft hissing could be heard from the bat, "you have an early start on the second round!" he chucked before gently pushing him on the ground with Ameila and Jace.
The bat curled up on his own as he felt his fur already starting to change. His arms and legs started to recede, thinning his paws out into stubs before they were getting sucked into his body. His underbelly turned into a dark gray while the rest of him was turning into a velvet red colour. Soon enough, he could feel his body start to shrink length-wise, but staying as wide front how big the balloon was previously, now but vanished on the podium. The bat's body was starting to grow more ribbed and segmented-looking, or at least as much as it can with his slowly inflating state. His arms and legs have receded completely into nothing more then little rounded nubs on the sides of his body, while a series of other ones grow out to match them. His voice slowly morphed from natural talking to incoherent squeaks with the other three as they wriggle on the ground, trying to get used to their new bodies.
Michael looks over to the badger, although his arms were crossed over his chest as he kept his chin up, "So what? Am I going to end up like them?" he asks, looking over himself, although there was no evidence of hissing or creaking coming from him.
"Of course not, you're the winner of the round, so you get to have your go on these 'balloons' and see how big they can get" he chuckles softly and walks away, leaving the dragon with the three new balloons.
"Have me go? Well alrighty then" he chuckles softly before picking up the scoliopede balloon, "how about we start with you, since you seemed oh so inclined to win, I'll help you even! Here" he walks over to his pedestal, taking the ninetails off the nozzle and replacing it with the scoliopede while going over to the platform, sending the plunger up and filling the chamber with air.
"Let's go ahead and start with the difference, if you're up to it" he smiles with his eyes glittering in mischief before sending the plunger down, forcing the scoliopede to squeak out as he felt his body stretch out a little with the sudden increase of air. The segmented areas of his body were slowly growing less defined now as the dragon began to go at the pump, filling up the pokeloon with air. Creaks could be heard coming from his body as it inches out further and further in front of him, although he couldn't really see it as his head was stuck on the end of his ball-like body, leg stubs wiggling uselessly on the ends of his body. The counter above them slowly went up as the pumps got closer to the dragon's winning count although the scoliopede was starting to grow more thinned and translucent, creeeeeaaaaaaaks could be heard coming from his strained body. The dragon even seemed to be a little worn out from pumping into him, noticing a bit of resistance building up behind each pump, although he wasn't aiming to stop anytime soon. Bailey tries to talk, although only rubbery squeaks could be heard coming from his mouth, all of which didn't grab the dragon's attention. He closes his eyes as he stretches out a little more, the counter above him flipping over numbers, close to matching the dragon. Ten...........seven............-creeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaak-..........four.................two....................-grooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaan-...............................one................... He couldn't take one more pump, his body stretching out a little more, before giving out with a soft 'pop', scattering bits of rubber around the area.
Michael chuckles softly, "Well, so much for being a big mouth, he couldn't even have a body to match!" he mocks, noticing the other two balloons lying down, going up to pick up the galvantula, "Nice bug..." he comments again, squeezing the balloon inbetween his hands curiously, feeling them sink in a little, much to Jace's protest, "Well, you have a lot more give then the other guy, but I'm not sure, you're pretty small..." he mutters to himself, but goes up to his platform and sets the nozzle into the bottom of the galvantula's abdomen, fitting snug onto it, making the balloon's weak strength impossible to pry off of.
"Now, bringing in the bonus round, Bailey and his galvantula balloon! This goal: two feet!" he smirks in a mock announcement, hunching over the pump to get ready, before with a silent gunshot, he began to pump up feverishly. Jace's abdomen blew up first behind him, rounding out and losing its egg-like back for a general round one. His head started to swell up too to stay (somewhat) in proportion to the back of him, swelling out and wobbling softly from the air flow inside of both him and the building. He flails his stubby legs, trying to bend them before the air found its way into him and stretched them longer and wider, at the expense of the ability to bend them. That didn't stop him from trying to move them, only succeeding in tapping on the podium and squeaking against he rest of his body as it looked less like a galvantula and more like two round balloons, one about 18" and the other 10". The dragon looks behind him to check on the pokeloon and smirks to him, "Not bad, not bad at all, you might actually beat the bat" he says hopefully, noticing that we was reaching close to the scoliopede's previous size, although his body was starting to grow more taut.
By the 22" mark, the galvantula was starting to look more in danger like the scoliopede, his rubbery skin stretched drum tight and losing some of its colour while he was starting to look more comical with his legs, looking less like legs and more like long balloons you can make a balloon animal with. Little bubbles started to form on the skin, showing less and less resistance to the dragon, who didn't seem to mind, continuing to pump on the plunger and watching as his balloon grew thinner and thinner............before with a soft 'pffsh', the bubble bursts on the pokeloon, quickly deflating him into a stretched version of himself as the dragon pick him up and sets him down, "Well, I'll give you one thing, you were bigger then the scoliopede, so good for you" he chuckles, standing up and almost tripping on Ameila.
"What's this?" he asks himself, picking up the normalish sized plusle, "well, you're so small, I almost forgot you were in the contest too! Don't worry, I'll give you some tips on doing better" he says with a sly grin before moving to the podium, stopping himself. "Wait a second, I'm sure you can blow up much quicker if I do this...." he lifts her up and turns her around, finding her nozzle on the middle of her tummy, before untying it, and taking a deeeeeeeeeep breath in. Ameila squirms a little as she felt his lips seal over the nozzle, before squeaking out as Michael suddenly blows out into her with a muffled 'pfffssssssssssssh'. Almost immediately her tummy blew up in front of the dragon, squishing against his snout while her arms and legs starfished out. Her skin creeeaaaaks softly as his breath tricked down. His hands moved to account for her new size, almost half a foot more girth to her body while the dragon sucked more air into his chest, making it swell out a little, before PUFFing into her again! Her body inches out some more, before she could feel her feet and paws blow up too, followed by her tail, looking like smaller balloons on he larger balloon of her body. Even though she was being blown up by her middle, her cheeks soon puffed out, like she was blowing into one as well! The dragon continued to empty breath after breath into the Plusle, watching her body grow out past one and a half feet, although at the cost of each part of her looking bloated and stretched tight, making the room easy to see from the other side of her tummy, but that didn't stop him. He continues to put each breath into her, determined to make her bigger then the rest of balloons, stretching them out larger and rounder as the plusle closed her eyes. Pressure started to grow inside of her, feeling like someone was pushing on every part of her body, stretching out with resounding groans of protest.
Larry walks out from behind his 'stage area' where he stayed in the first round and claps his paws together as he walked up to Michael, "I must hand it to you, you were the most fun contestant we had so far, you're welcome to stop if you'd like" he points out to the dragon, who wasn't paying attention to what he said, holding out one paw to him to silence him as he continues to blow up Amelia. Each moment passes as she inches bigger.........tighter.......rounder...........creaking softly as she wobbles a little in his paws, spreading them out more as she tries to stretch out a little, but was finding less and less room to do so. She stretches a little more before with a soft, 'pop' the plusle bursts like a small balloon and scatters pieces of rubber on the ground.
"Alrighty, it looks like we have a unanimous winner" the badger chuckles softly and lifts up Michael's arm up in a victorious manner, before walking out to the side of the room and beckoning the dragon to follow. As the two got closer, Larry pulls out a large box, opening it up and showing the dragon its contents. Inside the box were neatly folded folded balloons, some of them looking vaguely familiar as either pokemon, digimon, or animals. "These were some of the other contestants who didn't quite make the cut, but you're free to take them if you'd like, since there isn't really anyone here for you right now" he points out and closes the box, gently pushing it towards the dragon. He nods, smirking devilishly as he picks up the box and makes his way out of the studio...
