Wuff just couldn't stay away from his grill and smoker! You'd think, after the big weekend shindig, that Vrghr would have had enough of them for a time.
But, Noooo!
So today wuff did a double batch of his "3-2-1 Ribs" (Recipe here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14173503/ ) with a few playful changes. Same rub, but a slightly different session in the foil, and a very different BBQ sauce this time.
Last time, wuff used bacon fat, honey, and Dr. Pepper for the liquids within the foil. This time, Vrghr was out of his saved bacon grease, so just laid 4-5 strips of extra thick-cut bacon over each slab. And used A&W Root Beer for the soda.
And for the BBQ sauce, wuff created his own Root Beer BBQ Sauce to go over the ribs, instead of the fruit version from last time.
Different flavors, but the same wonderful texture, juicy meat, lovely smoke ring, and crispy grilled bits - - Oh, Heavenly!
Vrghr will post the recipe for that Root Beer BBQ Sauce in his main gallery.
Pictured above is what those ribs look like during their final grilling session, being painted with the BBQ sauce and getting a nice char and a caramelized coat.
If only it didn't take 7 hours to do a batch of these, not counting the time resting in the fridge beforehand. Sure, the chef's attention time is only an hour or so, scattered in minutes here and there through the day.
But the anticipation and the delayed gratification is Killer! *giggles* And wuffy can't just plan on these any day of the week, unless he works from home and can attend the smoker between reports and documents.
Still, they're so good! that you know these will show up on wuff's table again and again!
Going to freeze a couple ribs this time, and see how they taste when warmed later. Wuff knows he'll lose some of that crisp crunch from the grill, but if the results are good enough, next batch won't be just 2 slabs, as shown! Doesn't take any more smoke or time to do 4 or 6 of these! And wuff's smoker is large enough to do 10-12 slabs at once! *evil laugh* What mischief may await!
Putting this in scraps because it isn't a new recipe, though it is a variation.
