The first suit I ever made and the most recent, both of the same character. With four heads in between, there's been a definite improvement in both what's visible and what's not visible. My first had crap vision, awful ventilation, and I would get ALL THE PIMPLES EVER on my chin from the back of the tongue resting right under my lip and getting all gross. My most recent has SUPER DUPER vision (excellent downward for being around kids!), pretty good ventilation (thinking about adding a fan for even better airflow), and fits properly on my head so there isn't any rubbing anywhere (fewer pimples!). Plus the ears don't swing around to clobber folks in the face and the antlers point up and not forward so I'm not murdering people.
I'm always patching things up after each wear of the new one, and there's now a better slope between the knees and toes than this picture (which was taken by Buck-Aye btw!), making the feet look a lot less huge by comparison. I mean. They're still huge. But. So are the ankles, so it looks better.
And it's a full digitigrade suit instead of a partial, which is also nice. :D
Things to fix/upgrade in the future?
-New ears! I tossed the current ears on so he would be done in time for an Easter egg hunt I did in April... I was so eager to suit for the kids that I pulled several all-nighters to get him done in time for the event. He didn't have any hair yet since the wig was still in transit, but he was "done enough" and I had a great time suiting. Here's a pic from then from my twitter!
The ears are from a previous jackalope-human partial thing I did for Halloween last year. I made them quick and sewed them to an elastic headband to wear with a wig. While looking for fur to make the new ears, I found them in my crafts pile, took them from the elastic, and sewed them onto the head. They're... okay. I'll replace them at some point with ones that weren't made with such haste.
-New teeth! Current teeth are Crayola Model Magic. Not waterproof. Can't jam a water bottle in my face without damaging them. Would like to be able to do that. They'll be remade in Sculpey sometime... probably after I ruin them trying to drink water anyway.
-New digitigrade padding! Current padding is attached to jogging pants as a separate part from the bodysuit. They're very cobbled together and every time I wear them I tear the foam from the glue, leaving holes in the foam like crazy. I want to make some nicer, sturdier padding and line everything properly. They'll have the exact same shape (it's how the bodysuit is sewn, after all) but they'll be better made... now that I know how to do it.
-Bigger handpaws! My current ones are unlined and are so form fitting that the sweat goes right through. I want to be able to give high fives and let kids grab my paws without getting everything all gross and sweaty. Current paws are great for partialing but I think bigger ones will match my giant feetpaws better.
A little at a time I'm hoping to improve... and perhaps one day I'll be skilled enough to make a suit that someone else will wear. And they WON'T have to have it fixed after every event! Ha!
