In trying to make a more historically accurate dromaeosarid, I need to have this fursuit covered in feathers. I've seen pics of a few other suits that have faux fur to simulate down with regular craft feathers for emphasis, but wanted to try something different.
Here we have the tip of the premade suit's tail with the first few layers of feathers attached. My method is to measure out bands of elastic to cover rings along the tail. a row of craft feathers is glued onto each elastic band in a way that they provide near-total coverage with the minimal amount of feathers. The next row of feathers covers up the previous one's elastic band from view. This method provides a good coating of feathers while still allowing the base stretch fabric underneath to accommodate tail flex and motion.
