There are over 100 fires in my province burning right now; 90% of which were caused by people either not putting their campfires out properly or by throwing cigarette butts out the window when driving along the highway.
It's been the driest summer ever here and the forest fire risk is at an all time extreme.
Thanks to someone who was possibly too lazy to throw out their cigarette in a garbage or an ashtray or someone who didn't take the time to fully put out their fire, our lovely town has been completely blanketed with smoke for the past 3 days straight. It's blocked out the sun completely, been making people sick, making people wear masks. Nowhere in Canada should the air quality be worse than in Bejing which it was only yesterday. I can barely see the back of my property thanks to all of this smoke.
I might have to evacuate. I might lose everything I have ever worked for thanks to someone's laziness. My mother, who has dreamed her whole life of owning a ranch, finally having reached that dream just this past winter, might lose it all thanks to someone not double checking their campfire, or because of someone's annoying, awful, cancerous habit.
Animals will die. If we aren't fast enough, my mother's horses might not make it out. Countless acres of forest, the plants that keep us alive are burning. Countless woodland creatures that are part of the ever so important food chain, circle of life, or whatever you want to call it, will get trapped, or will be too slow and will not make it.
Desolation.
Destruction.

Beautiful, and yet dastardly. I was born and raised in a desert. Forest fires were super super common -- there was one not too far from my house once. I could see the flames at night roaring over the mountain from my front door. Was a truely terrifying experience. Luckily we never had to evacuate. So I totally understand where you're coming from.
wow, that would be really scary! I've never had this issue as we only just reently moved way out into a valley. We used to live in town but now that we're out here, we're 40 minutes away from town, in the forest, no cell reception and in a valley so the fire is kind of funnelling towards us and it's really scary knowing we might have to evacuate. It's a new experience and a bloody scary one,
I didn't know you could get forest fires in desserts cause when I think of a dessert I think of just sand and cacti lol. rip me

Plenty of shrub and such grows, but because of the arid conditions, they dry out and die super fast, and they're super super easy to light aflame. Paloverde trees, among cacti are probably some of the only things that don't easily die in the desert, so when a simple brush fire lights (usually because of reasons explained about, most commonly cigarette butts), things get out of control super fast. I'm a smoker IRL, and while I moved to an area less flammable, I STILL DO THIS DAY avoid just tossing a cigarette out the car window, or just tossing it into the yard. It's been programmed in me to snuff it out.
Any form of smoking bothers me as well.
I try not to preach about it, but when people use the excuse "my habit has no effect on you" and then you see fires and second hand smoke...yeah okay.
BUT I WAS LITERALLY JUST LOOKING AT THIS GIRL'S REF AND SHE IS BEAUTIFUL OMG ;; KUDOS ON SUCH A BEAUTY<3

yeah, we're going through a drought too. Our summers in BC are usually wet as fuck; like... rain for weeks then a couple days of sun, then more rain. However, we haven't had a good rain since about April so.... it's just ridiculous here.
i hope you stay safe as well <3 i hear it's just as bad, if not worse in alberta

Yeah! I'm from BC, so I know how wet/humid it normally is. Lucky.
AB is dry and horrible. I work landscaping/lawn maintenance, and I'm almost out of work because we've had like, two days of rain in since the beginning of May.
So everything is dead, and catching fire too easily. The humidity in the air is a tease, it's like, "I want to rain for you, BUT NOPE. NOT GONNA."
Apparently this is the worst drought we've ever had in 50 years.. :/

I feel this pain so much in Cali... Wildfires caused by negligent dumbasses, especially on the 4th.... fireworks. augh. and out air quality is shit.
I hope your moms horses will be okay :( My cousins horses are alwys needing to be moved when the wildfires come up. People are so stupid and horrible.

damn thats fucked up. like thats horrible i hate that some people do that kinda stuff. like even in cities people have started fires that take up 2 houses because someone didnt make sure they had there firepit out. and the cigarette thing is dumb most cars come with a ashtray pre-installed why dont they use it?
Absolutely stunning. This is now one of my favorite works of art (I would frame this and hang it on the wall if I could). Despite that, I'd gladly trade ever having seen it for your peace of mind and safety (and that of your family/animals/home/etc). I can only have a vague idea of what you are experiencing (kind of meshing together my experiences with hurricanes and a nearby forest fire that wasn't a direct threat but rained ash down on the city and smoke blocked the sun...and screwed with my allergies massively), but I hope everyone and everything there remains safe (and that you get your birthday wish...especially if it involves passing through here on the way....rain would be nice here too =). If there is anything I can do to help you in anyway, you need only ask.
thanks so much for the support <3 I really appreciate it. My father isn't very worried so I'm doing my best to adopt his peace of mind. At the very least, I don't have many items that are irriplaceable so they'll be easy-ish to transport away should we be given an evac notice. Also, if we do have to leave, I get to spend the evacuation time with my mate in the city far away from any danger so that'd be nice in it's own way I suppose ;-; <3
Despite the horrible acts commited upon her , our mother (earth) has a miraculous was of recovering what was lost :) though it will take time , the areas where the fire burned and destroyed will come back , and probably greener then before. Fire has a way of renewing these areas. I agree its pathetic and sad that our kind cause this destruction , but some good can come of it. All you can do is consintrate on keeping what matters most to you safe. Forgive my horrible spelling ><
Your complete artworks are always so enchanting, but this isn't about your art right now. I'm so sorry some assholes made your town be in such horrible shape and that you may even need to evacuate, I really hope you can save the forest area and all the animals, I wish you the bestest of luck of finding the idiot and putting down the fires.
