He was an 80s sports pop culture institution, made famous nationwide by cable TV. He was the king of sports mascots, and he did live appearances all over the country. There was also a PR scandal involving the Chicken wherein the man in the suit who made the character so famous left the character for a while, and when the character's owners tried to replace him, the Faux Chicken got booed out of the stadium. On live TV.
