Gauari Society

Gauari are a very intimate society. They share a conciousness a lot of the time with others of their species as they have short range telepathy. As such, they tend to be very open and loving and don't hold mean thoughts in their minds. This can cause them, however, to be a bit too honest with others which can lead to problems. Gauari have mild Shapeshifting powers in that they can change their hair, hair color, markings, fur color and basically anything that isn't their actual body. They like to change or decorate themselves with trinkets that show off or bring attention to their tails and ears; They rarely wear clothing that covers either. Gauari are genderless until a coming of age ceremony where they go through a self reflection ritual and emerge with their newly chosen sex. Sex in and of itself is very loose in Gauari society. They will often choose a single mate to spend the rest of their lives with but will freely have sex with anyone, as long as their partner is consulted first. Of course, some choose to stay with only one mate but it is not unusual for them to try others from time to time even then.

On their home planet, they are hunter-gatherers, but have fairly advanced technology. Their population tends to stay low because of the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Their planet is quite hostile, so they tend to stay in tribes together. They use very little ranged weaponry, preferring to take things in melee combat and one on one unless the odds are heavily stacked against them. They tend to heal very quickly, though not much faster than the average human. Any scars can be easily covered up but many choose to wear it as a badge of honor and some even go so far as to accentuate it with their clothing or body markings.

Gauari tend to be a bit too honest with others. White lies are an alien concept to them. They are very faithful and trusting of others, sometimes to the point of naiveté. They are easily tricked into sometimes odd or awkward situations and will often not even realize it unless the deceit is made plainly obvious. They are often very helpful to others, even if it's thankless. A Gauari who has been with a person long enough will eventually be able to read their minds and connect with them as if the subject was another Gauari; however it doesn't allow the subject to connect.
