So yeah...a pic of me and my ride...oh, and my new car is in the background, too. :)
The hawk I'm am holding is red tail hawk by the name of Wiwaste(pronounced We-wash-tae), which is Soix and means 'Beautiful Lady'. She is the bird I'm currently working with for the educational programs I do with the center. She was an illegal falconer's bird and was found tangled in a tree with the illegal or traditional form of jesses on her. The type that are supposed to be used, whos name escapes me at the moment, are designed as such so that if the bird flies away and is 'lost' that they would fall off if the bird picks at them enough. The kind she was found with are more perminant and is illegal to put on birds who can fly for the very reason for which she was found.
She is quite the sweet bird and seems to seek out human attention, often flying at the netting of her flight when people pass in an attempt to want to be with you. She was quite young when we found her, less than a year old, so didn't even have her red tail yet, and with her temperment we are under the assumption that she was raised by people from a chick, weather taken from the wild or from a breeder, we do not know. She is also quite the large bird, unusually big for a red tail hawk, she is quite notisabily larger than other wild red tails, and not becaise she is fat, she is just naturally large for a red tail. Even with her usually docile temperment, she does have off days where she seems to be cranky, as demostrated a few weeks back when she put her hallux(the rear, or killing talon) though my hand, luckily no perminant damage, though probabily will have a scar there.
Oh, and the car a brand new car I bought a few months back, a 2009 Hyundai Accent SE. Not the fastest car in the world, but I rather like it. Also note the red decal in the side window, showing the logo of the Sarvey Wildlife Center.
