It stems from the Japanese term for a upper classman in school. Someone if a higher grade is usually called Sempai. The internet eventually just ran with it. Essentially its just poking fun at those people who are huge fan of an artist and are over bearing.

On google it says "A senpai is someone who is of a higher social standard. Notice me senpai is usually a junior hoping he/she would get the attention of the senpai."

Believe it or not, in the past, I had very few people acted like this onto me. XD So the truth is not so far off. I've seen these people faving like 50% of my entire gallery without commenting. I'm not even sure if they're doing this either because they happen to like my art, even the crappy ones, or just to get me to notice them.

On the flipside, I used to have that fanboy-ish behavior before. Except I never dared to ask them if they could draw me a pic for free. One famous Thai artist did, however, draw me a free pic because I asked nicely, so I was grateful for that.
