Hey guys! Meow is the first completed track to the reboot of my upcoming album, Who We Are, previously known as Found and Lost! This is my first solidified, mastered track.
This song was originally just a joke towards
dragonrain, but there were more than a few people wondering if there would ever be a full mix, so, I finished it! I hope you enjoy this one! I'm super proud at the mastering job done here!
Now, if you will excuse me, today I'm not very good at typing descriptions! lol
"Meow" is an original compositon, written, performed, arranged, and produced by Melodicat.(me!) Please do not distribute without my acknowledgment. Thanks! Love ya!

vocals are a little cringy with the autotune and just the "meow" thing seems kinda silly. They're also a little too drowned out by the synth leads. Unless you're going for shoegaze/dreampop, the vocals should be heard a little better. I like the arrangement/composition, but the mix is a little too dry for me. I also think there should have been some sidechaining and a little bit of EQ work on the kick (maybe a bit of multi band compression) to help it punch better. Love the snare you chose.
sorry I'm being critical, I'm kinda picky with audio, thats an occupational hazard when you're an audio engineer :P

Meow was a joke really so I honestly dont like to consider this one of my solid tracks haha. It was a lazy project, really, and towards the end when people wanted more, I started getting down to business with sound quality. The mix itself sounded fair to me to some extent. I'm sure it would help if my mixing environment were nicer, since none of what I have would be considered a good monitor at any rate, and maybe that's my biggest problem at the moment. Sidechaining on the actual kick itself is a technique I haven't used very often at all, and I really blame my inexperience on that one lol.
Overall my mixing is my biggest concern right now, so I appreciate these comments! Its nice having someone open my eyes a bit and point out things that otherwise would've gone unnoticed!
I've wanted to go to school as an audio engineer myself haha

I have a bachelors degree. If i may be frank, I'd suggest just using lynda.com. The degree isn't really worth as much as I hoped it would be. In the end, the biggest draw for actual college is being able to play with some fancy equipment that you'd otherwise not be able to get your hands on. this industry is all about shmoosing with the right people. Gotta have a decent chatterbox on your face to get anywhere. Building solid connections you know? I'm quite terrible at networking, otherwise I'd probably be a little less obscure. As far as mixing goes, all you need is a decent pair of headphones and a car stereo to monitor on. If it sounds good on consumer tech, it will sound good on anything. If you want any tips on sound in general, let me know. I know the craft well. :)
