I have to agree with this statement here.
Sephiroth is CONSIDERED a badass, but he has some lame aspects too.

There are different villains and I consider them way cooler than Sephiroth. Sure Sephiroth is cool but for me personally he ain't the best

No, I mean able and willing to destroy the entire planet for the sake of power. Remember the Black Materia? Even after Cloud killed him, he still wasn't dead.

He is doing it all for his mother. And if you read into it... he goes crazy because of an identity crisis and gets all bitch... there is nothing badass about Emo, or so society says. He gets the wrap for being bad ass because he wears a black cloak, has silver hair, and uses a really really long sword that looks like a katana.

... It's called a Dai-Katana. And he's using his mother as a weapon. He sics her on Cloud right after he kills Aerith. And his blade? It's a Masamune.

xP I've played the game more times than I should have... as well as Crisis Core. He's doing it so his mother can rebuild the world. He actually says that specifically quite a few times. And I cold care less about an Nodachi, which is the correct name. It's so long he's lucky he didn't break it on something xP. My point remains strong... he is NOT the most badass Villian ever; you don't even have to go much further in the Final Fantasy series to see that. Both Kefka and Kuja prove that.

o.o I have two copies of Crisis core, and I've logged in about 4 save files of FF7. I'm a hardcore sephy-sama fan. And as such, I'd like to say...WHO CARES if he's doing it for his mother? He's still doing it! I mean, if I was his mother, I would be PROUD as hades that my son is going to such great lengths just to please me. And yeah, he uses her as a weapon. I'd help my baby boy with everything I could if he wanted me to. I mean...Jenova birth, life, death...Of course she's a weapon. But that's not the point. The point is, he's farkin awesome. Case in point, long platinum hair, black trenchcoat, and a 7 foot long masamune. He uses the main character as a puppet in one game, and his best friend as cannon fotter in the one before it. He has a movie in which he almost screws the world over AGAIN...By diseasing everyone. Let's see, that's physical, psychological, and biological warfare all in one. And he pulls it off with style.

xP There is no real point in arguing this in reality. As far as I can tell you're either a fanboi or not. If you're not it's because one does not look past the faults and other things one might not like about him. Alas xP Both our opinions valid because there is no strait cut fact on what makes a good character or not.

Kefka xP Not only is he MORE evil... he has absolutely no reason to do what he is doing... other than he wants to. I'm sure if you gave him a knife... and he saw an infant with a piece of candy... Kefka would torture the baby... then eat the candy.

We're talking about vilains of the same series right? Fulgrim created sound instruments that make your guts shoot out of your eyesockets. :P

Yeah but that kills you quickly xP no fun in that. Kefka poisons a kingdom of people just to laugh while they died xP... against direct orders at that. And I'm speaking in the FF series.

Hmm glad I stumbled upon this, these are some interesting comments. I think Sephiroth's pretty cool and he was a big first for the Final Fantasy games because, despite how genocidal Kefka was, Sephiroth was the first final fantasy villain who killed a major playable character, and one that was very well liked by a number of fans at that. Also you have to look at the complexity of what causes the events in that game. To me, Hojo was the real villain because almost every death even those made by sephiroth is on his hands because of his god-complex and lack of care for anyone else's life.

But I digress, it was still an amazing game with some great character. Sephiroth was bat shit crazy I think which made him a very interesting character. Oh and Vincent Valentine was more emo than Sephiroth XD
