He had that whole anguished soul appeal to me and I suppose that's what made me click with him. He's all "We shouldn't do this, we can't do this" so naturally you want to. XD
And tbh, he's always been my go-to tank, like once he joined the Inquisition, he was a permanent part of my party. I conquered every high-dragon behind his shield. ^^

You can have him >n>/ I'm half-convinced he's hiding a fade rift in his ominous beard and is remote-controlled by a pride demon. Actually I've always wondered if I could have left him stuck in the prison in Val Royeaux P:< Maybe I'll try that in the next playthrough.

True, he's definitely seen more winters than anyone else in my parties. But then again, I have a soft spot for Joel from Last of Us too and he's at least 50. <_<
It's hard to explain why Blackwall had any appeal, but I suppose they played the 'tormented/anguished loner' card well enough with him that it just fit.
Some ladies just have that 'I want to wrap him up and take care of him and never let him be hurt again' instinct in them and I suppose he appealed to that in me.

I only evaluate male characters by the 'I want to grope and molest him because he's manly hot as fuck' sense >w> So the whole being in need of protection didn't occur to me~

I thought about WHY that might be .... and I finally figured it out... HIS SIZE. He's short, right? And there are looots of rather spacey doors everywhere. With the key hole RIGHT AT HIS EYE-HIGHT! He doesn't even have to bend down a lot! And he's morbidly curious.
So sneaky Varric probably spied through a few too many key holes (and wanked at the same time) and got his nose cracked when the door swung open because he didn't move away in time. D8<
