When I looked at the 'thumbnail-sized' art, I only saw the ship on the horizon.
I thought "Commodore is now a port for a ghost raider-ship!" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_Wolf_%281913%29
(The raider-ship even had its own seaplane on-board, for air-scouting!)
...But on enlarging the photo, I noticed a sleepy seaanimal on the beach... As good a story, anyway.
A very good story-telling photo, too.
