Well,  Lymerick already said everything I had to say. Wait, no, there is one more thing: Wow.

That is a very beautiful bird, and I'm amazed you caught it right after it caught a minnow like this. You know, this is exactly the sort of thing I'd see on a wildlife poster. Really, I can't look at it without wanting to reach out and touch that egret (although that would probably result in painful peckings).

Much obliged for the kind words. :3 This was a pretty cool thing to watch... the egret would wade around in the shallows, kicking and twirling his (her?) feet in the mud to stir up the fish. Then, ever thirty seconds or so, it would dart its beak into the water, lightning-quick. Every third or fourth try would bring up a minnow, which would disappear in moments. I was lucky to be able to snap one of the catches mid-action.

See, that sort of thing must have been fantastic to see in real life. I was going to say something about this being a one in a million shot but I didn't want it to come across the same way. Was this at the zoo? It be simply amazing for you to catch one in the wild like this, but I can't tell from just the water. Actually, speaking of which I think you have a great angle here too, it's really cool to see that rippling reflection.

I think this is a perfect shot of a Snowy Egret fishing. It should be on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowy_Egret.

Yeah, it was really something to be able to just stand there and observe how this guy(?) went fishing. Pic was taken on the shore of a salt marsh in the S.F. Bay Area... most definitely a wild egret. I like the ripple effect on the water too. :3
