Being the friendly tail that he is, Spike will normally let a playful, wriggling rat like Rodent out safely. However, it is that friendliness that dooms Rodent, when Spike hears the rat's wish and decides to make this Rodent's new, permanent home. Completely loving the sensations around him, Rodent only becomes excited when he realizes that Spike is absorbing him; but it's not only his body. Spike is also absorbing Rodent's energy, ensuring that his soul finds this as his new home as well. In the end, it seems as if both of them are happy about the outcome. <3
