Leon and Katlin ducked for cover as blasts of energy assailed their position. The twins exchanged a glance, trying desperately to figure out the next move. Their opponent was tough, well trained, and skilled. It would take all that they had to defeat him. Leon peeked around the corner, pulling back quickly as a yellow blast of energy splashed against the wall near his head. He called out to his sister.
"Kat! Fastball, now!"
Katlin nodded and rubbed her hands together. Green energy built up, and she 'rolled it' into a sphere. Reaching back the cobra stepped around the corner and threw the energy ball. Immediately a barrage of yellow blasts flew back at her and she dived for safety. Her eyes locked with Leon and she hissed.
"Got any more bright ideas, Leo?" she asked.
Leon shrugged.
"Multiball?" the wolf replied. "You distract him and I'll rush him."
Katlin sighed and stood up. Once more she summoned up her powers, her hands glowing. She spun around the corner, yelling as she fired ball after ball of energy. The corridor lit up brightly. Leon started to close his eyes, ready to summon his own abilities when he paused. Katlin had stopped firing. Leon looked.
"Kat?"
"He's gone," came the reply
"What do you mean, gone?"
"Gone. He's vanished!"
"How could he have just vanished, Kat? We had him trapped in a dead end."
"Well I don't know, Leo. But I'm telling you, he's goooooo......."
Leon's eyes went wide in shock as Katlin suddenly convulsed, yellow energy arcing over her body as it struck her from behind. The wolf watched as his sister dropped to the ground, still twitching, and he spotted the enemy, stun gun in hand. The opponents locked eyes and Leon cried out. His powers activated and all around him time slowed down, running like molasses. Leon charged, moving faster than light itself, knowing that his opponent couldn't react fast enough. He swung, his fist aimed for his opponent's jaw, and missed. Leon blinked. His opponent had vanished before his eyes. It was impossible. Unconsciously Leon allowed time to speed back up to it's normal pace and turned, looking about. A gasp escaped his lips as a golden gauntlet wrapped itself around his muzzle. The opponent spoke.
"You're dead."
The gauntlet let go and Leon glanced up, his ears drooping as his father looked him in the eyes.
"You cheated, Dad. You used your gauntlet to evade me."
Wolfen raised an eyebrow and stepped over to Katlin, helping her up.
"You expect your enemies to play fair?' Wolfen asked.
The older wolf gently stroked his daughter's cheek, making sure the stun gun he had used on her had not hurt her too much.
"You both have an amazing power," Wolfen said. "If I push you hard during your training exercises, it's because I know you much to offer. There are enemies out there who will crave the power that resides in you, and they will stop at nothing to get it. I just want you both to be safe."
Katlin nodded.
"We know, Father," she said.
Wolfen hugged his daughter, Kissing her forehead before reaching out to pull Leon into the hug as well. He smiled slightly, proud that they understood their responsibilities. They were going to be great heroes one day...
