Ji grew up as an orphan in China, often fending for himself. In his teens he got into wrestling as a way to keep fit and get money. Though not the reigning international champion (yet) he has gotten close to that title many times. It was during one of his matches in Japan that the Yakuza approached him and told him to throw the fight. When he refused and won the fight, he was shot on his way home with his girlfriend. He survived but she didn't.

Ji Goku is usually untrusting of others, especially those of Yakuza background. He always pushes himself to be stronger and spends most of his time working out, though he does have a weakness for food (especially when it's free).
