This year at least... Just flew back in February. They didn't make me put my phone away. Just have you put it in airplane mode...

You may have had a cool flight crew xD they always say to put away your phone till you get a certain height

According to what I can find on the internet, phones and tablets have been added to the Personal Electronic Device List for US commercial flights. Each airline may choose devices from this list to allow out on a plane during take off and landing. The device must be in "airplane mode", but other than that it is up to the airline's discretion.

We flew Southwest for what it's worth. Call your airline... ^_^
