Long drives are so much nicer when you've got cruise control installed in your car!

I'm weird.
I prefer manual transmission and never use cruise control. Automatic trannies are more convenient, sure, but it makes me less in contact with my vehicle. I don't get bored driving with manual... well, except for those long, boring, flat places I might encounter in the middle of the US.. :)

I will never get another car without cruise control.
But I get annoyed at people who treat it like a Ronco Rotisserie. Set it and forget it.
Those people just cruise in the left lane, unaware of how they trap cars in the right lane behind trucks, causing them to come out of their cruise control in order to slow down and get behind them.
All they would have to do is simply speed up a bit. Watch how annoyed they get when you realize that you are going to get trapped, and pull into the left lane to get around the truck without touching your cruise control.

I concur with Haystack. Even on long, straight roads I never use my cruise control. One nice thing about having a car with a manual transmission is that you always know how fast you're going.
Of course, I choose to go about 20MPH+ above the speed limit on the expressway, but that's a different issue. ;)

Right now, I'm using a truck with automatic transmission and broken cruise control. Even after 1-1/2 years, I still find myself speeding unless I keep one eye peeking at the speedo. Would much rather be watching the crazy drivers around me.
My old VW Fox broke its speedo about a year before I bid that good old wagon farewell. Knowing my shift speeds let me stay under speed limits in town. My two long freeway trips were no problem, either. I timed the first few miles using the instrument cluster's nice, large, well-placed analog clock and mile markers until I found the right engine note in top gear, and stuck with that. 52 seconds/mile = just under 70 MPH. :)
