This art style seems to be more and more common recently. Its a new generation of artists perhaps?

I disagree a bit. I feel Wink's in particular actually a revival of stuff from the black and white days. Throw in that pie eye and it'd be waaay more clear. It reminds me of more of a Betty Boop. Maybe Over The Garden Wall <3
I feel what is going on recently for other cartoons is more of a streamline due to using symbols to animate instead of a drawn form. Where I'm going with that, I dunno xD I don't see the comparison at all.

I've always loved Wink's in particular because it has that essence of being whimsically unsettling. Which I can't really draw myself and its the feel my characters are meant to have.

I'm talking more about the expressions, it seems to be common now, I mean, check 1000butts's fa.
