Farseeing. Inscrutable. Ever Smiling: True Facts About Sy...
There are actually only a few, solid tidbits of genuine information known about the one known as Sybil. First, she's one of the few breeds of living Ghoul: A typically subterranean, predominately carrion eating species known for its connections with the Dreamlands - their burrows and tunnels wind back and forth between that realm and the Waking World. They are a highly durable species - if they survive a severe, even mortal injury long enough they'll eventually heal from it - and usually come in more bestial, wiry forms, but they are capable of looking human (to varying extents). Second, she (and her warren) has been lingering around Felton and its graveyards since the 1920s, and took part in the Dreamlander turf wars between a few different Extranatural groups in the community during Prohibition. Third, Sybil isn't her real name - Ghoul names don't easily translate into most human tongues, and Sybil is one that she adopted for various reasons. Fourth, she holds a position of authority within her warren; not a leader, per se, but still someone that holds sway among the lesser members of the local Ghouls and can influence those higher up. And last, but not least, she seems to have a love-hate obsession with one local Tcho-Tcho, Martha Talbot, alternating between treating the young woman as a trusted confidant or little sister and making attempts on her life and sanity - for reasons that are not clear to anyone but maybe Sybil.
Those are the known facts about Sybil… Everything else is unconfirmed rumor or hearsay: The word that she's a psychic or seer with the gift of prophecy; that she's immortal (even for a Ghoul); the whispers of her abducting people for dark rites and perverse acts in reverence to evil, Eldritch gods; the talk of her robs graves for antique jewelry; that almost unanimous conclusions that she is a sociopath and utterly, completely insane; the frequent debates that she's not even a Ghoul at all, but some shapeshifting embodiment of Chaos… All that and more is simply unverified gossip and speculation. Although, it is recommended to not question Sybil's reputation as a seer to any of the local Ghouls, it is almost guaranteed to result in a fight.
There is one other, somewhat unsettling observation about Sybil for those times when she's seen in public: She always smiles. Whether she's being amiable and having a laugh or drink at one of the local clubs or flirting with some handsome fellow or girlie, or bearing down on someone with intent to kill them or preparing to sic a pack of Ghouls on someone, or any other possible activity, Sybil has never been seen without some form of smile on her lips. None of Sybil's acquaintances could imagine what Sybil might look like if she actually frowned - as terrifying as some of her smiles can be, though, no one is really interested in finding out.
This is actually the third bonus from
KawaiiJumi that I requested - posting them a bit out of order, as I feel like them. Not sure if I care for how I wrote Sybil's true facts this time, but I'll say that I absolutely LOVE how she came out. This is the first colored piece of Sybil in her mostly human guise, and she looks gorgeous. The only thing off is that Sybil has four fingers instead of five; the ref I provided Kawaii was a bit unclear on that. Nevertheless, it looks amazing.
Again, honestly, Sybil's true facts submission was actually hard to settle on. I have oodles of ideas for her, but nothing is particularly set with her beyond what she is, her basic appearances, some of her abilities, and a few historical bits. Guess you could say, in some ways, she's still in development - and I'm looking forward to developing her further.
