Leader of a clan of hate, Melsir was never the type to play well with others. Her children were often deeply entangled in situations that left stains on their race's reputation, and she was quick to retaliate against anyone she felt had insulted her. Typically, Melsir's favor could only be won with great effort (and an equally great body count), so it came as a surprise that she chose to even acknowledge Elsis and Fahgi's proposed alliances, much less accept them. When both Clan Leaders were slain, it was assumed that Melsir would dissolve the alliances, and it was once more a surprise that she instead adopted the survivors into her own clan and even forbade infighting as a term of that adoption. Because the Dragon-Cubi war inspired so much of the emotion they fed off of, Clan Melsir swiftly grew in strength in the centuries following Cyra's ascension.
And then Melsir vanished.
Nobody really noticed at first. Mel's preferred method of "teaching her children to survive" was to toss them out on their rears every few centuries, and when she stopped responding to her clan's efforts to reach her, it was assumed that she was doing so once more. But then it became apparent that children born into the clan after her disappearance weren't displaying the signs of belonging to a Leader'd clan. Then the younger Cubi born before her disappearance began to weaken. After five hundred years, the only Melsir-clan Cubi who still seemed to retain any significant power were Mel's own direct descendants, who had become secretive over the decades since their mother's disappearance. Rumours began flying. Mel had clearly withdrawn her power from her clan, but why? What had caused the power to fade instead of cutting off all at once? Had she done it intentionally? Was she still alive? If she'd been slain, how had her power been severed without the backlash normally associated with a Leader's death? Whose power were her children drawing off of?
Melsir has been missing for almost two and a half millennia, and most clan members who even remember her are now dead. Her direct descendants refuse to discuss her, further fueling the mystery/confusion. Her "leaderless" clan members number approximately two hundred*, and they are mostly reckless criminals, surviving more by chance than anything else. In general they believe in Cubi superiority despite the war's toll on their race, and they typically look down on Beings and even many Mythos and Creatures as prey.
*this swiftly changes when Shawnee's killing spree begins
Clan quirk: Children of Melsir-clan Cubi are small-sized, even if both parents are "normal" size or the children themselves aren't of Clan Melsir. It is currently unknown what would happen if one parent were from another clan with a size-related quirk.
