I keep seeing advice to comic artists to make their works more diverse so as to not alienate any of their audience. Every comic should have at least one character in it that everyone can relate to.
The issue with that in relation to my comic is that all my characters are people I actually know, and I'm not willing to mutate them beyond recognition just to avoid triggering someone.
I suppose I could always make the non binary characters more obvious if that would make people more comfortable but it would make these comics REALLY weird....

usually through some sort of personality or stereotype. For instance, you can have a character with dreads or maybe one in a sari (christ i hope i spelled that properly) or some tribal tats that make someone look at it and go 'that character is from my people'.
The closest I had was my old manager from the gas station with his horrific mutilation of the English language.

People of color! Wow, that one threw me. Yes, let's point out what colored skin the people behind the anthropomorphic animals have, because THAT'S what people who love anthropomorphic animals want to see in their comics, not the - you know - anthropomorphic animals representing people.
Well I get that, but then you start crossing into the realm of stereotypes by having to showcase that - oh, this fox is supposed to represent a "race" just becasue he/she acts this way, or displays this particular trait. It's one of the things I like about furry, race doesn't really matter unless you go out of your way to make it so.
A lot of people expect artists to go out of their way to include everyone these days. I had even recently seen an art tutorial blog come under fire for using the term 'female anatomy' in the tags for a post on how breast muscles work because it apparently triggers people with body/gender dysphoria.
The Internet is a scary place these days.

I am triggered by your lack of Broccoli-kin tri-gendered pansexuals in your comics, you are alienating me by not focusing on near-meaningless labels of people, that only matter in close or intimate relationships with said people and I'm going to have tumblr raid you because of your lack of inclusion of these highly specific things that only really who up in very certain contexts don't out-weigh the real things discussed here. Be prepared to be trashtalked on my blog which has 4 followers just like me.
TL;DR I hit the fave button pretty hard.
