“I am Different” pt. 2
Ethan's classes had finished for an hour now. He decided to stay on the university a bit longer studying for the next test. He was tired and got disappointed as soon as he left the building and looked up at the sky. With clouds as dark as those, a storm was surely on its way. Luckily, he had brought an umbrella with him today, but he'd still have to drive for 40 minutes in the middle of a storm to get home.
A couple of steps later, it had finally started to rain. He walked with his umbrella covering him until he had reached a corridor covered only by a small ceiling made of shingles leading to the exit. There was nobody at the campus, it looked almost as a ghost town. As he walked, he noticed a lonely soul sitting on a bench at the distance, close to the exit. It was Snowy. He didn't have an umbrella and was trapped without being able to return to his dormitory.
Ethan noticed that the arctic wolf had a sad look on his face. He decided he should watch him for a couple of minutes before approaching him. He didn't exactly know what he should say to him. Snowy, on the other hand, hadn't noticed the gray wolf. He was just staring at the falling rain.. The sound and the scent of rain used to calm him down and relieve him from his anxiety. He sighed. Even though he loved rainy days, he wished he could go home already. It was getting late and the memories of that terrible day he had just had were pushing him down.
A couple of minutes had passed until Ethan had finally decided to approach the arctic wolf and talk to him. He walked up to Snowy, slowly and, as soon as he got close enough, he said with a calm and kind voice:
- Hey, are you okay there, buddy?
Snowy blushed heavily as he turned his head and noticed that beautiful gray wolf standing next to him. He didn't know what to say. For a moment there, he was completely frozen. He could feel that his hands and legs had started to shake as his face turned even more red with every second. Ethan, on the other hand, welcomed the arctic wolf with a soft and kind smile.
- It's cold in here and I can see that your clothes are wet from the rain… Here, take this. - Said the gray wolf as he took off his coat and covered the arctic wolf with it. - Do you mind if I take a seat?
- N-no… O-of course not… - Snowy could swear that his face had turned into an apple by now. It had been a really long time since the last time someone was so kind to him. He still had no idea of what to say. He just remained silent, looking down as the red blush only got bigger.
Ethan wasn't letting it show, but he was just as embarrassed as Snowy. He just stayed there, sitting by his side for a couple of minutes, until he finally decided to speak again.
- So… Why are you here all alone? The classes have ended a long time ago.
- I-I… I had monitoring classes after the normal ones… I-I'm one of the monitors… The classes finished 20 minutes ago… B-but I'm a little slow, so I g-got trapped…
- I see… So that's why… And I guess nobody waited for you, am I right?
- Y-yes… T-that's right… I'm used to it though. Nobody never waits for me…
It was just like Ethan had imagined. He didn't have anyone. He didn't understand why anybody would not want to be that boy's friend. He is so sweet… He is different.
- May ask what your name is?
- I-I'm S-snowy… S-sorry about that… I-I should have introduced myself.
- Don't worry about that. My name's Ethan. It's nice to meet you Snowy. I know our meeting was an accident, but I'd totally wait for you if I was a classmate of yours. Actually I'll wait for you right now. I have an umbrella, see? And I also have a car… I can take you home. - He said with a soft smile.
- N-no… Y-you don't have to… I don't want to bother you.
- No worries, I wanna be bothered by you as much as possible.
Snowy couldn't help but giggle with that. Ethan was being so kind to him, he was feeling so warm by his side… That strange feeling was back to him once again… It felt just like his warm place on winter. He had never imagined that guy was so kind when he used to stare at him from a safe distance. He was so beautiful he thought he would be a jerk to him like the others… But he is different.
- May I ask you where your house is? I can take you there.
- I live on the university's dormitory… It's just 5 minutes from here by car.
- And you said you'd bother me. - Ethan laughed – I live like 40 minutes away from here. C'mon, my car isn't parked far from here. - He smiled as he stood up, opening his umbrella and offering his hand to the arctic wolf.
- O-okay… - Snowy blushed again as he held the gray wolf's hand and stood up.
- The rain is strong today… Hold on tight, I don't want you to get soaked and catch a cold. - Ethan said as he held Snowy close, something that made both of them blush heavily, as they walked together towards Ethan's car.

A couple of minutes later, they had arrived at the university's dormitory. Snowy was already opening the car's door and heading outside when Ethan grabbed his arm and gently pulled him back.
- I thought I said I didn't want you to get sick, didn't I? I'll get you inside. - He smiled as he saw the arctic wolf's red face and slowly opened the car's door. He got outside with his umbrella at hand and turned around to get Snowy, holding him close once again until they had reached inside.
- T-thanks Ethan… That was very nice of you…
- Nah, don't thank me… After all, I'm not finished yet. Where's your room? I'll get you there. - He said with a soft smile.
- Y-you don't have to… I am okay, don't worry…
- I gotta make sure that you'll take a warm bath and change those wet clothes before you get sick. I ain't going nowhere right now.
- T-thanks… My room is the last one… L-let's go…
They started walking towards Snowy's room, both of them were still very embarrassed, one not being able to hide it. Once they had finally gotten inside, Ethan made sure that Snowy would go straight to the bathroom.
- I won't be long, don't worry… I'll be back in a second. - Snowy said as he closed the door.
Ethan knew that it would take a while for the arctic wolf to get out, so he decided to take a look around. Snowy's room didn't have much on it. Just a bed, a tv, a small refrigerator and a small wardrobe. The gray wolf also noticed that he had a fox plushie, a couple of game consoles and some posters of bands on his wall, as well as a keyboard.
- He has a pretty good taste in music and games… And he's also cute…
Suddendly, Ethan's phone started ringing. It was his mother. He picked up the cellphone and answered the call.
- Son, where are you?! Are you okay?!
- Yes mom, I'm okay. Why are you so worried? Did something happen?
- The storm has increased and the city's streets are starting to flood! I was afraid you were caught up on it! Your cousin said you still hadn't left the university.
- Oh, is that so… Don't worry mom, I'll find some place to stay until tomorrow. You don't have to worry about me.
- Okay son, please call me later to tell me if you were able to find any place where you could stay. Mom loves you.
- I love you too mom. - He said as he shut the phone.
- Uhm… E-ethan…
Ethan turned back to see that Snowy had already got out of the bathroom. He was staring at him with that lovely blush on his face. He had listened to the entire conversation.
- You could… Uhm… You know… Stay here for the night if you want…
