The world around Tilla shifted as the dragon lay down, and the feline princess made a mental connection that caused her blood to run cold. Sapphire had said that knights had been bothering her for the last hundred years. “S-Sapphire, how much longer is your nap going to be?”
Sapphire yawned before responding. “Oh, no more than another fifty years or so.”
“Fifty years!?”
“Unless you prove to be good leverage, in which case I might keep you longer. But don’t worry. As I explained, my crop is meant to keep my prey fresh, which in your case means keeping you alive. You’ll still be fine when I wake up. You won’t have to eat or drink – you probably won’t even age.”
“Wait! That’s not the problem!” But Tilla could already feel Sapphire’s breathing grow deeper, and the dragon’s heartbeats started to slow. She was going to sleep.
Tilla punched and clawed at the walls, but had no visible effect. She screamed, but the dragon ignored her.
Finally, Tilla curled up, settling into the small chamber. It looked like it would be her home for a long, long time.
