A little backstory piece for Tumbles.
TLDR at the bottom (though I recommend reading the whole thing because, not to toot my own horn, but it's pretty freakin good)
Warning, this story will probably make you cry. Get your tissues ready.
(for this story, keep in mind Tumbles is a plush)
The beginning of his life started with Annie. He was given to Annie as a birthday present for her 1st birthday. Annie loved Tumbles to bits. They did everything together, and where Annie went, Tumbles went. Even as Annie grew, Tumbles was always by her side. Their friendship always remained as strong as the very first day they had met, even though Annie little by little "forgot" (in Tumbles' words) to take him with her places. Eventually, Tumbles spent his days sitting on Annie's headboard. He didn't mind it much, though. He was just happy that Annie still loved him just the same (and snuck occasional cuddles). Tumbles was there through it all, Annie's first boyfriend, her first breakup, her second boyfriend, her second breakup, college, her third boyfriend, her first marriage, her first move, her second move, her first child, her third move, her second child, and everything after. Just a few weeks after her 47th birthday, she came home, shut herself in her room, grabbed Tumbles, and sat with him for hours, holding him and crying. Tumbles wanted to ask what was wrong, but even as hard as he tried, of course he couldn't. He soon found out what was wrong. Her husband mentioned "brain tumor" and "irremovable". Of course, Tumbles didn't know what these meant, but he knew they couldn't be good. He watched her slowly get more tired, and she looked sick all the time. He couldn't understand why, and it made him so frustrated he couldn't just ask. Though even as frustrated as he was, he was just happy to be with Annie. He was with her on her good days, and her bad ones. He watched her slowly deteriorate into a person he hardly recognized. A person who couldn't go to the bathroom herself or make her own food or eventually, not being able to squeeze him like she always would. After what seemed like the longest year of his life, Annie let go of him for good. She lost her warmth, her cheer, everything. Tumbles knew she was gone for good. She wasn't going to ever hold him again. All he could do was be there for her his whole life, but now what? Tumbles was sat on a shelf, and forgotten. Forever looking upon the bed he watched Annie grow weak in. Eventually, Annie's family moved away, not looking back to that shelf high up in Annie's room. He sat there for months, smiling as always, but empty inside. No one came to the house, no Annie, no anyone. So he sat. And waited. For someone. Anyone. Years passed and Tumbles spent his days counting new cracks in the paint of the wall. He looked out the window every night and counted the stars, making wishes on every shooting star he saw. After about 7 years of sitting, he made one final wish, one final beg to a shooting star. "Please. Please let me make someone happy again. Please..." He felt a strange sensation, starting in his hooves, traveling all the way up to the tip of his antlers. He saw a cloudy figure appear and he heard it speak in the softest voice, just like Annie's. "Tumbles, I can't thank you enough for being there my whole life. Even if it seemed I had forgotten you, I hadn't. You always made me happy, even when I had nothing left. I left this world with no pain, no suffering. And it's not fair you had to suffer after I was gone." Tumbles felt a beat in his chest, he stood up and wobbled, then fell off of the shelf that had held him for so long. He looked up at the apparition with tears in his eyes, but a smile on his face. "Annie, I love you." He was surprised by his new found voice, but quickly dismissed his surprise and ran toward her, his arms outstretched. She embraced him and in her sweet voice said, "Tumbles, it's time for you to make someone else happy. Thank you for being my friend." Just as suddenly as she had appeared, she vanished. Tumbles sat for a while with tears in his eyes and a smile on his face. The sky quickly grew light and the morning sun shined in on him. He looked at himself and all of his holes were gone, his missing stuffing replaced, his fur as soft as the day he met Annie. He stood again on his wobbly legs and looked around the room he'd sat in for so long. He smiled and a final tear rolled down his soft cheek. Then he set out to do what he does best, make people happy.
Wow, was not expecting that. Thanks for reading if you did :D I don't know how it ended up so long, I just started pouring out my heart and soul and ta daa. So yeah, Tumbles' backstory. Sorry for the crappy quality of the drawing, I decided to try out Clip Studio Paint and I really like it, but the canvas sizing is in millimeters instead of pixels so that got me a bit confused. Also, apologies for any grammatical mistakes, it's 1 am. Lyrics from "Vanilla Twilight" by Owl City :3 I hope you enjoyed!
TLDR: Tumbles grew up with a girl named Annie and when Annie got older, she got an irremovable tumor in her brain that eventually killed her. Tumbles sat on a shelf, forgotten for years, wishing on shooting stars to be able to make someone happy again. Eventually, Annie's spirit came back and granted his wish. She brought him to life so he could make a lot of people happy.
