Venus7 [part 4] Fursonal Allure - Alissa
Aaarrgg!! My scanner is still giving me trouble. I really should stop using color pencils *so angry*
This is just something to show some of Alissa's fursonality. The strongest things that separates Alissa from the others and makes her appealing, in her own way. I think the images speak for themselves but if questions form, then bring 'em.
Tips anyone? Anyone know some coloring techniques or some way to get the colors to not shalk up when scanning? My appreciation will be so much!

Just build up the darker areas with darker colors. Look at real shadows and notice that they aren't just muted versions of the original. Hard to explain. Observation is the best, though.
And re: pencil brands... You're going to have a hard time coloring with what are, honestly, poor quality pencils like Crayola and Prang. They come in limited colors and are a very, very hard lead, which makes getting a smooth color much more difficult. The softest "cheap" pencil I've ever used was Rose Art. The Prismas are professional quality, and as such have a higher price tag, but you get what you pay for.
Also, the texture (tooth) of the paper you use is important to, especially when using a dry media. A rougher tooth is going to make it harder to get a smooth finish, especially with a hard lead, but something with no tooth (something like copy paper, for example) isn't exactly great either as some dry media will smudge. Here, you just have to experiment, since most artists I know have their own preference.

*ears twitch* THanks, Gennii it's good to hear you say it ^^
I know what you mean, I had to fight the scanner to get it to look this good. It was a lot worse (no matter how well I try to do with my drawings, the scanner always bumps my skill points down by 20-35pts.) I use the HP Solution Center (HP - for Hewlett Packard)
It might be inevitable.
