Actually, it does. The translation just sounds screwy
because there's some nuance and cultural assumption
involved. Skimming through the Wikipedia articles on
Battle of the Gods, and Resurrection of F, it starts to
make sense. Part of the problem is that the Japanese
have several words with different shades of meaning,
that are all lumped under the word "God" in English.
If I'm understanding things correctly, the name is meant
to imply that Guku's "God" form was the base level of a whole
new set of power-up forms. And his blue haired appearance, is
actually the first of these. In a nutshell, if SSjG is his new base
form, then SSjGSSj is it's Super Sayian 1 equivalent. If he powers
up even higher in the next movie, it would be SSjGSSj 2
