I originally wrote this story for a writing class I took back in 2006. It was a class in writing "Fabulist" fiction, so I figured that a story about talking animal people would fit right (as it turned out, I was right; mine was far from the weirdest story we saw in that class).

After the class, I actually spent several months revising this, after getting feedback from furries and non-furries alike. I don't think I've ever put so much time or work into one of my short stories as I did with this (although I think it's technically past the 'short story' point and into 'novella' by some definitions).

When it came time to do the "Cupcakes" line of novellas (with  Kyell and  Foozzzball), I figured I'd take this, dust it off, and pretty it up. People who read it when it was an older work told me it was pretty fun, and I figured it'd make a good outing for a short read.

I do have some vague plans to write a novel that takes place in this world, too, but that's probably a few years off at the absolute earliest.
