While this is true, but it is still a far better fighter than the F-35.
Interesting to note the F-35 was meant to be a cheeper fix but now the per unit price is actually over $105,000 We should have gone with both the F-22 and YF-23 as each has its strong points and at least each could beat the F-16 in arial combat (the F-16 consistently beat F-35 in recent trials according to leaked information from one of the pilots in the trials)

Originally.
In all my time in and later associated with the military nothing stays as was Originally stated.
What you are referring to are the specifications Marines put forth. The Air Force conducted a massive upgrade of the A-10 in 2010 to extend its service life. If you have ever seen an A-10 in service you know there is nothing that can take their place. They can take more hits and have a redundancy unmatched.

Ok...your chatting with someone who's been around for almost a half a century here and worked in aerospace...
Yes the A-10 is an awesome plane and will be used for several more years...but it's still dated...
I knew back then when the DoD started the JSF Program that it would be plagued with problems and someone had a wild hair up their butt too force the other branches to use a common strike aircraft to save money. But you can't do that...each branch has it's specs and needs. And of coarse everyone was on the stealth trip...
And again the politicians got their hands into it and made a mess of it.

Cool! I was working at Edwards in the 90's Where you with the Boing or Lockheed project? You would have noticed the Native American guy with the long hair (me) LOL.
As for the politics, nothing new there most notably from the Truman Committee on this has been going on. Remember the YB-49 cancelation? Or the F-4, F-111 and the F-18? Political cockups are the norm in any weapons acquisition.

I still wonder what would happen if you loaded down all those nifty hard points on an A-10 with nothing but 7.62mm, 20mm, and 30mm cannon gun pods....and just started one WHOPPER of a long-ass strafing run...Salvo fire. Not all at once. Cause then it'd be raining A-10 parts.
F-35 what a Joke our prim-minister is bankrupting our country to fund it. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe.....ship_USS_Wasp_(LHD_1).jpg
He and the Program will not last passed October 2015 if we Canadians have something to say about it. People who protest are Called terrorists and are Killed or Beaten. this man is not a Leader of a free country. he is a thug.

I honestly prefer the f-22 over the f-35, especially on a design note. Also, russias t-50 is also looking good and I think to remember Japan is also planning a very similiar plane to the F-22.
Seems this kind of design will be the future of all next gen fighter planes. I'm curious what the european countries will build next, as the Eurofighters sucessor.

you do know the t50 came out before the F-22 right... Russia beat everyone to the punch with there new strike fighter that could do a tail stand.
and for the next 10years the US was playing catch up.... but this always happened 1980-1998 back and fourth. OK well since the Cold war started and now Putin is going back to that he is more dangerous then the others combine.

Erm, what the FUCK are you talking about?

F-22? First flight 1998, with deployment in 2005.
T-50? First flight 2010, with planned deployment December next year.
Yes, its sort-of predecessor, the MiG 1.44 was designed around the 80's, but again, it was cancelled, the Mig-37/47 was also almost cancelled, and the development of the F-22 prototypes began also in the early 80's, earlier than the soviet program, since their fighter was supposed to be an answer to the ATF programm.

Never liked the Raptor, except in looks. A truly gorgeous aircraft. But I always thought she was lagging in performance. *shrug* Not an expert so I really can't say. However, I CAN say that the F-35 should be shredded and recycled into new parts for other planes. And don't get me started on the F-117...>.>
