You know the Miranda Class came about sort of by accident? :) They were originally going to use another Constitution Class design, but they realized in a movie you need to be able to distinguish one ship from another at a glance, so they designed the Miranda Class. When they sent the designs to Nicholas Meyer who was in Europe at the time, he initialed the designs upside down (because the engines were originally on top), and when they got them the production crew flipped the orientation of the nacelles and added the roll bar. True story.
