Endless Realms bestiary - Hunger
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
As soon as I came up with the concept for this monster, I knew it was going to be a pain to illustrate! Hungers are undead abominations formed from the repurposed bodies of those it's consumed, driven by an endless hunger for the flesh and souls of others, or perhaps by the eternal suffering of those victims trapped within.
Was inspired originally by the concept of a pillar of flesh from Eternal Darkness, but I definitely get Resident Evil/Dark Souls vibes from it as well :b

Oh, it's very good. I highly recommend it! Here's the character, though: http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net.....20130610215230
And Bloodborne is very good! Exactly like Dark Souls, but with simplified stats. So it's an everyman's Dark Souls xD

I was definitely thinking of a different character... but... Hah, yup, I can definitely see the resemblance!
Yeah, we've only heard good things about Bloodborne, and we loved Dark Souls, so we've been looking forward to when we have a bit more money to throw around to justify getting a console we don't need right now :b :(

Neither, really. It's a creature I came up with for the Endless Realms game - I normally have the art director feed me ideas, but she was busy this month and needed me to come up with them myself. But yeah, I was definitely inspired by a few video games I've played in the past - originally I was inspired by stuff from Eternal Darkness, conceptually/atmospherically, but as I actually started drawing it, it made me think of something from Dark Souls and/or Resident Evil.
Haha, awesome, thank you! Yeah, my inspiration originally was from a game called Eternal Darkness, which was a psychological horror. It featured something called the pillar of flesh, which was a Giger-esque monument of morbid fascination and horror - I was aiming for that kind of feel, so I'm glad it seems to have worked!
The first thing I thought when I saw this was "well, at least I don't have to go to the bathroom anymore!" And then when I read the name my brain snapped right to the elder scrolls' hunger, not really anything like this one, this one is more, "giant mouth and tons of limbs" while the one I'm thinking of is more, "very nimble and small and looks hungry with a weird elongated mouth"
Man, Eternal Darkness. If ever there was a game that deserved a sequel but never got one, it was that game. I'll still never forget how much it messed with my head the first time Eternal Darkness acted like it was actually lowering the volume/muting my television (in the game the volume display looked almost exactly like my TV's at the time XD). And the first time I picked up that "health power up" that made my character's head explode. XD
Yessssss, Eternal Darkness was so great, really made the most of being a psychological horror GAME, an interactive story, so the tricks were played on the player, not just the character, and I loved that.
Hahaha, yeah, you try to cast the healing spell but your head explodes :V
Other favourites is when it'd simulate a system crash and console reboot, or a power outage, or the controller coming undone in the middle of a fight while you're powerless, watching your character stand there uselessly, dying.
Man, good game.

XD That makes me think of the old, old, old Dark Forces game (back when FPS were played with joysticks and before the classic mouse/keyboard combo was developed) with the Dianoga/red-one-eyed sewer tentacle monster :S Freaked the crap out of me, and I never played past that point XD
