BACK FROM VACAY. And to warm up my drawing hand I drew some art of the best damn cartoon doctor in existence -- MOTHER FUCKIN' BLACK JACK.
I'm so happy that Vertical is translating some of the series now. I love me some Osamu Tezuka.
Black Jack is an unlicensed doctor who is famous for being able to cure even those deemed impossible to cure. His assistant here is Pinoco, who he pulled out of her twin sister that she'd been growing inside for eighteen years as a Tetyrogenous Cystoma. Her sister rejected her, so she lives with Black Jack and proclaims herself his wife. Black Jack however treats her pretty much like a daughter.

You mean like the one where an old man ran over a kid and when he thought of how it looked like his long-lost son, he decided to pay Dr. Blackjack to screw with the boy's mind and have him think he was the old man's son... and yet it turned out the boy REALLY WAS the man's son, so Dr. Blackjack decided to punish the old man by screwing with the boys mind to make him think he was someone else and decided to tell the old man that the procedure was a failure?
Dr. House at least goes "there is something wrong with this guy and I gotta fix it!"
Dr. Blackjack is an asshole that overcharges people and doesn't give them what they want part of the times, and honestly thinks that people yell at him out of greediness
yeah kuroh i'm sure that the guy who lives in a shitty shack can't pay your hundred billion dollar operation because he wants to spend that money living the luxurious life he's on and because you would be sending him to a downward spiral of economical debt
oooooh what do you mean you overcharged and then fucked it up on purpose because you saw a thing that reminded you of your own mother that's not assholish no siree
at least House doesn't go "oh I see that you have a tumor on your brain but I'm rejecting you to do it because you kind of sneered at a kid on the lounge, heh take that you hideous misanthrope < > "

I never actually read the comic, but I have to wonder if someone that he overcharges like crazy actually tells him "if I pay you sooner or later I'm going to starve to death because I won't have a penny you twat" or is it one of those comics where if you even overthink a little Kuroh becomes an even larger douchebag
also I wonder if the episode on BlackJack 21 where its preety much "screw foreigners if you ever go to anywhere that isn't Japan go find the japanese guy" is based on a comic storyline where this feeling isn't as bad

I haven't seen as much of the TV series as yourself, I don't think. But in the manga at least he does travel all over the world instead of making people come to him. Also, he often doesn't actually collect the large sums he asks for. Or he accepts other forms of payment (like when helping a sushi chef who lost both his arms, he asks just to get free meals from his restaurant instead).
As for the skin color-- there were actually multiple origin stories for Black Jack as sometimes happens with long running series like this (there are multiple origin stories for Goemon's Zantetsuken sword in the Lupin III series for example). The black man's skin being used is one of them, but not always the one followed.

biggest problem with that is that House would be "What the fuck is wrong with this person!" when he sees that there is sprouts coming out of him. BlackJack would be like "I've seen this b4 cuz seeds can grow in the body" lol. Doesn't Pinoco have fake skin or something? Plus I haven't seen the blackjack episode where it tells Pinoco's story.
Well the game itself was like... half game, half-archive. As you beat it further and further you unlock the "Tezuka Universe" It basically has most of his characters and all the things they've been in. It's like wikipedia without the fat unwashed guy who keeps editing his opinions in as facts.
Holy shit, never thought I'd see Black Jack fan art here. Tezuka is THE GOD OF COMICS. I think "Phoenix" is my favourite comic evar - particularly the "Future" and "Karma" books. I just ordered "MW" and the first volumes of "Dororo"; I'm looking forward to the books arriving in the mail so I can get my Tezuka manga fix.
It's funny with those self-references in Tezuka's works. E.G. like you said above, the same characters play different roles in different comics, as if they were actors.
Anyhow, "Phoenix" is freakin' awesome. Even better than "Adolf" and "Buddha" IMO, and those are pretty damn wicked and come highly recommended as well. I prefer Tezuka's later, more "serious" works, but the great thing is, he's done comics in pretty much every genre and tone imaginable. And there's so much of it! Yay!
