Hey, I finally wrote something! …when I have three different stories I owe, not counting my other personal stuff…but here, have some Steven Universe meeting two of my gemsonae…
Connie knocked again, but there was still no answer. “Steven? …I guess they’re still out on a mission or something…,” she mused, stepping away from the door. As she did so, a familiar flash of light filled the house, and the human girl heard some excited speech inside. “Steven?” Connie called again, and she heard him rush to the door. He managed to open it while holding a large red and green egg. “Hey, Connie! Look what we found!” Steven grinned, pushing the egg into her hands. “Oh…w-wow! Do you know what sort of animal laid this egg?” Connie asked as she walked in, Steven closing the door behind her.
“No, but we’re gonna eat it!” Amethyst announced. “No, we’re not! …considering where we found it…it’s probably rotten anyway,” Pearl pointed out. “Well…we could try to see if there’s anything inside of it. I don’t know if you have any candles, but we could probably use another light source,” Connie suggested, giving the egg a light shake. It rattled. “Ah, see?” Pearl exclaimed smugly. “I…don’t think a rotten egg is supposed to sound like that, though…,” Connie said as Garnet handed her a flashlight, taking the egg.
The lights were turned out, but the group managed to find enough darkness near the rock wall, away from the sunlit front windows. Connie shone the flashlight on the egg as Garnet held it. “There seems to be something sitting on the bottom,” Steven pointed out, and Garnet flipped the egg over. Two rounded shapes fell within the egg with a clatter. “There is definitely something inside it!” Connie confirmed. “What is it, though?” Steven wondered. “Only one way to find out!” Amethyst grabbed the egg and ran over into the kitchen and proceeded to slam it against the edge of the counter, breaking off a chunk of the material.
“…oops.”
“Amethyst!”
Garnet manifested her gauntlets and took the egg from Amethyst. With a grunt, she pressed her thumbs into the shell before finally breaking the egg in half, a pair of gems clattering to the counter top. The egg became light and faded away. “Gems?!” Steven leaned over the counter, trying to see as Garnet despawned her gauntlets and picked up the green gem. It was smooth and shaped like Pearl’s gem, with two black lines making a four-pointed star on the surface. “…Star?” Garnet wondered, when the gem began to light up. The doll body appeared, going through two reincarnations before settling on a design.
This gem, no bigger than Ruby, had green skin and short, fuzzy, black hair pulled back in green ribbons. She wore a black Japanese warrior’s vest, with her gem just visible between her shoulders, and baggy green pants. As the gem became aware of her surroundings, she squeaked and shapeshifted into a little lizard. She proceeded to run about, crying in a string of Japanese. “Star, please calm down!” Garnet called, trying to catch the lizard. “It…sounds like she’s saying…‘don’t eat me’?” Connie guessed, a bit unsure. “Star?” Amethyst asked, confused. “Do you remember Red Obsidian?” Garnet buzzed, just missing the lizard gem.
“Yeah, she rocked!”
“Star Diopside is part of that fusion!”
“We found another Crystal Gem!” Steven, a bit confused and definitely excited, started chasing the new gem as well, along with the others. It seemed to be fruitless, however, as Star was still frightened and under the impression she was going to be eaten. After they chased after the lizard gem for a while, they heard another voice. “Wouldst ye all mind if I tried?” the voice said, and Steven turned to find another new gem standing next to him. She was as tall as Pearl, but built like Rose and Amethyst. She wore a pink warrior’s vest over a Japanese priestess outfit, her pink, heart-shaped gem just visible on her chest, and her long pink hair was done up in ribbons. Oddly enough, she seemed to have shifted fox ears and nine tails.
“She would probably be more likely to listen to you,” Garnet admitted, stepping back from Steven’s bed. The pink gem spoke calming words in Japanese, kneeling by the bed, and Star finally crawled out, shifting back to get a hug from the pink gem. “I…don’t think we ever got to meet outside of our fusion before…I am Pink Tourmaline,” she introduced herself, letting Star stay in her arms. “We haven’t seen Obby in ages. What happened?” Amethyst inquired. “We were…overwhelmed. As Obsidian, we used the last of our energy to create a shield…how long were we gone?” Pink asked.
“…oh…it was a few centuries…,” Pearl admitted. “Centuries?” Star squeaked as Pink stood up and set her down. “Please don’t tell me we are the only ones left…where is Ro-…wait…,” Pink stepped toward Steven and moved to touch him, only to pause. “…may I?” she requested gently. “…uh, sure,” Steven answered, not entirely sure what she meant. Pink Tourmaline touched the boy’s face, gently feeling his skin before leaning down to smell his hair. “…you smell just like Rose…,” she realized. Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst glance at each other, uncertain of where to start. “…she was my mother…I never got to know her…,” Steven started. “Mother? Like…you do smell human, as well…,” Pink observed, wondering.
“Rose Quartz made a human?” Star guessed. “Ah, yes…and used her body to make his in the process…,” Pearl explained, while Steven lifted his shirt to show Pink and Star his gem. The pink and green gems glanced at one another. “I…don’t know what to say…Rose had a human child…,” Pink got a determined look and grasped Steven by the hands. “Then I shall fight by your side, just as I did with your mother!” she declared.
By the time Connie went home for the night, Pink Tourmaline and Star Diopside had readjusted to having bodies again after sleeping so long. They’d had an in-depth discussion with Connie over the Japanese medieval period, and Pink bonded with Amethyst by the former brushing the latter’s hair as they reminisced over the times they had fought together. Steven introduced Pink and Star to video games, and it turned out Star had a knack for Steven’s battle game. Pink ate dinner with Steven, but after he went to bed, the other gems explained how the war had ended, how Rose had met Greg, along with Steven growing up and the recent excursion from Homeworld. In the end, it was decided that Pink Tourmaline and Star Diopside would stay with Steven and the Crystal Gems, especially since they knew so little about how the human world worked now.
