Hay guys! It's been a long time since I uploaded anything, so I figured I'd show you this!
So, I went to a brony get-together (first time I was able to actually hang with other bronies. yay! ^w^ ) and one of the gals there decided to have a couple paintings she did hung on the wall for the event. One was Applejack running, and the other was Rarity dressed in her garden party garment, and both looked pretty dang good!
Anyway, seeing her paintings inspired me to try taking up canvas painting again! i had tried to get into canvas painting several years ago, but thanks to being busy, and my mother giving me extremely negative criticism with my first, and only painting I did, the idea was brushed aside, my paints were lost, and my canvases buried in storage. (this is why I have never shown my mother ANY of my art since then, about nine years ago)
Negativity aside, I decided to go into Walmart, and on a whim, purchased a painting kit with acrylic paints, a pack of water color paints, and a pack of three 11' x 14' canvas boards.
Sitting at home, I was contemplating on what I should try to paint. I decided I wanted to do ponies, because they are simple, but I didn't want it to be boring, like just having somepony just standing there. So I decided to do Luna, cuz Luna is freakin awesome!
At first, I was just going to have Luna silhouetted and her mane through color and abstract pattern display her power, beauty, and pain, sort of like painting Luna without actually painting her, if you know what I mean.
But because I severely lack artistic skill and creativity, when I sat down to sketch the concept of my idea in my drawing book, I came up with this instead. Not nearly as majestic, but still not boring, and I think it's within my skill level. This will only be my second painting ever after all. And I think it kindof touches base on most of the points I wanted to present. it shows that Luna is majestic, that she is a being of power (maybe), and it shows her remorse, things from her past that to this day, (as she has shone in the latest episode) she feels great regret and shame for. (I really wanted to give her a hug in that episode. Poor Luna)
Anyway, there is still that big, empty space above Luna's head that is bugging me, but I don't know what to fill it with. I thought perhaps putting Celestia in there, but Celestia gets too much attention as it is! i want this painting to focus on Luna! >:[
Another idea may be a silhouetted mane 6 to show that Luna is NOT alone, that she does have friends, those who love her, but that might still distract attention from Luna, and also, it would make the painting more of a challenge if I have all six ponies up there.
The third idea I have is to have the background be the dream-scape we saw in "For Whom the Sweetie Bell Toils" and "Bloom and Gloom", which would be the easiest, but show the least emotion.
What do you guys think? Got any other ideas of what I should put up there?
Now, as for the boarder of the painting, I was first thinking of extending the painting all the way to the edge of the canvas board, but if I did that, and decided to frame it, I would not be able to do any frame matting. So I then thought of having a boarder of non-painted section of maybe 1/4 inch around the painting, but if I decided to NOT frame it, it would look terrible. So I came up with my third option, which was to have a painted boarder, that is an extension of the painting. That way, if it is framed and matted, it wouldn't cut anything important off, and yet, it could still be hung without a frame.
Well, just thought I'd share this with you guys! I doubt that I'll even be able to START on this project for a time, and it will likely take me a while when I do finally get to it. (I need to set up a painting station!)
But I have two other canvas boards that will need to be painted, so what do you guys think I should do for them? I might try working on multiple projects at once to keep from getting bored with the one.
Maybe more ponies? Crysalis or Pon-3? Or I can try one of my OCs like Spaz or Aoife? What do you think?
Anyway, that's it for now I suppose. I hope I can get to painting this soon, like within the month ^^;
