Seeing the water guardian, Baptiste, taking a moment to yawn, Tannis just happened to 'slip' from his perch higher up and landed in the soft, fleshy maw. We'll have to assume that this was where the pleasantness ended for the coyote, when those monstrous, powerful jaws snapped shut in surprise; folding over and crushing Tannis, before gulping him down to a digestive doom.
