My church has a hallway outside the chapel where they hang artwork by the members and change it every few months. This is a church I've attended my whole life and I've always wanted to make something for that gallery. Nobody ever discouraged me or told me I couldn't, but I kind of counted myself out for many years, feeling like my style didn't fit. But recently I went ahead and asked, showed my best artwork, and they were glad to let me do something for it. :D

Each artwork they put up has a verse next to it. They suggested I start with a verse and build the work off of that. I didn't have long to choose, otherwise I would have scanned some more, but the verse below brought some pretty cool imagery to mind. I also got to learn to draw birds, so there's that!

Psalm 91:1-4

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

Psalms are songs meant to cover a wide range of expressions. Life doesn't always feel like this one. For me, it's been a rough 12 months spiritually. Wrestling with depression and being bitter and distrustful towards God for it, despite everything else going relatively well. But I'm pretty much out of depression for now and I'm embracing the gospel again.
