I was fooling around with the PhongE shaders to see if I could get softer highlights. Instead, I ended up pushing them in the wrong direction, by increased the roughness parameter. After seeing an interesting result, I cranked it up to 3 and increased the highlight size, too.
The result was this image! I rather like it, though I doubt I'll do anything more with it, at least not on the character models. An interesting effect. Looks more like something you'd see in Photoshop than on a 3D model.

They're meant to be a fur pattern in the final model, but for now (without a working UV set like Rederick has) I have to paint them directly to the polygons and so they look like gloves. Although, technically the fur patterns themselves are meant to be reminiscent of gloves, so in a way it's kind of both :P
Once the topology changes settle down, I'll be able to build proper UVs and draw texture maps more refined patterns. It takes too long to recreate them every time I change topology, when I'm changing it every week!
