This painting is essentially based on a dream.
A conversation with
summerjackel about coyotes and other hunters I think inspired the dream. The location, I'm sure, is from a memory of a place I've been.
Oh...done on some watercolor paper with ink washes.

I like this. It reminds me strongly of the style used in old children's books, illustrations for fairy tales...the REAL fairy tales, the ones that rarely end well or in General Audience Rated ways. It has a thick, solid, touchable look to it...as if I could reach into the screen and pull it out, and turn the page to see where the story goes.
I think my only beef with it is that it looks more like a wolf than coyote. XD Frankly I like wolves better anyways, so I guess I can't complain!

It is good- of course I'm living in Ice Hell at the moment, so what touches me personally is the feeling of cold, the way you have captured the bleakness. Perhaps when it is getting lighter outside instead of darker-- I'm writing shortly after sunset-- the coyote's fortitude in facing the surroundings would be my first and strongest impression.
Dreams are odd sometimes. One can dream of something they've never came across or done. It's...wierd.
But this is really neat! I really adore coyotes and seeing one drawn in your style is a treat for me xD I love how raggy and somewhat weak the 'yote looks. The bit of detail in the tree is a great touch too <3 Awesome job with watercolors! And "ink washes" aha <3
